Binro the Heretic - 2020-04-26

I'm just so God-damned sick & tired of this motherfucker.

I'm just so sick of seeing him, so sick of hearing him, so sick to my fucking core of his existence.

I hate that he has so much power to affect my life. I truly and deeply hate the people who give him that power. I truly and deeply hate the people who have the power to take that power from him but don't.

I don't wish any of them any ill or harm, but I sure do fucking hate them all with every miserable particle of my being.

But being hated by me or even being hated by millions of people like me has as much impact on them as a fleck of gnat shit hitting the windshield of a supersonic jet. There is nothing we can do to punish them that isn't a crime or deeply morally wrong. They're all a collective Joker trying to prod our collective Batman into breaking our own moral code by driving us to hurt them.

But I will never do that and will continue to my dying breath to discourage anyone else from doing it.

But fuck them all. I hate them forever. I will never forgive them.

And if you won't hold your nose and vote for Biden, then fuck you, too. I'm going to. I don't like it, but I will. I know he's problematic. I know. I know. I God-damned know. But Trump is the massive tumor we have to surgically remove before we can start the chemotherapy that will ultimately heal us.

Just grow the fuck up, bite the bullet. Do this thing and once we're out of the woods we can start addressing the root problems.

Crackersmack - 2020-04-27

eh, Bush was worse

Enjoy - 2020-04-27

You have a severe case of TDS. Probably incurable.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-04-27

Bush and Trump are different types of bad. Bush invaded Iraq and got lots of people tortured and killed. Trump's personal corruption has degraded American institutions and damaged the nation's ideas of democracy, social responsibility, and observable truth.

One's a bog-standard Imperialist who waged criminal wars to increase America's power, the other is a deranged cultist destroying America's soul from the inside just to stroke his ego and fill his bank accounts.

They're both shit leaders who are ultimately a loss for America and humanity. Saying Bush is worse than Trump is like saying fentanyl is worse for you than bath salts.

Nominal - 2020-04-27

It's more like saying Hitler and Stalin were worse, so no need to worry about or take action against any present day fascist strongmen like Bolsonaro, Duda, Orban, or Putin.

That is, of course, idiotic. Crackersmack is dedicated to this cynical contrarian bit, regardless of any real world consequences this election will have as long as gets the satisfaction of "owning the libs", so it's back to hopper spamming "Biden totally out of nowhere put a (Trump & Putin supporter) staffer in an armlock against the wall and finger raped her" videos in the hopper.

Crackersmack - 2020-04-27

"Bush invaded Iraq and got lots of people tortured and killed. Trump's personal corruption has degraded American institutions and damaged the nation's ideas of democracy, social responsibility, and observable truth."

This is a parody of neolibs, right?

Sometime in 2017-2018 was my first experience with a fresh install of Windows 10. I tried looking for some files on the hard drive using the search bar from the Start menu or whatever. Among the results, it showed me a picture of Trump's face from some web result for the same search term, cuz Windows 10 does that unless you tell it not to.

To this day I have an irrational hatred of Windows 10 and I will refuse to use it unless absolutely necessary. I'm foregoing good video games because of it and to be honest it's hampered my work performance a bit. All because of Trump.

Nominal - 2020-04-29

How did they manage to break the search function in Windows 7-10? It worked perfectly in XP (the last decent windows UI). In Windows 10, I'll do test searches in a folder for files I KNOW are there, and half the time I get no results.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-26

I believe that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be president one day. Seriously, I really do believe that. First the boomers will have to die off, but there's good news on that front.

Biden is, first and foremost, an opportunistic politician, and so his performance will be determined by his opportunities. I don't care what he's running on, I don't care about his record. Give him a Democratic congress and a great depression, and you may see a new deal. I'm not saying it'll happen. I'm saying that its absolutely possible.

Basically, though, if Biden will let Dr. Fauci get a word in edgewise, and not deliberately piss off half of the country, he's the change America needs right now. We do not want to spend the next two years with this government.

Hazelnut - 2020-04-26

On a side note I really like both AOC and Ilhan Omar. They’re the future, if humanity has a future.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-04-26

Respect to you both, but unless we're talking nukes America =/= humanity.

Hazelnut - 2020-04-26

TrumpISM is a global phenomenon I’m afraid: Putin, Orban, Bolsonaro, Erdogan, Modi, Duterte. Nukes are only the clearest path they have to take us to extinction.

I’m an optimist, I think humanity will make it. But the pandemic really drives home that these things are real, doesn’t. I’d put the odds of the species still being here in 100 years at oh say four to one.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-26

>>>Respect to you both, but unless we're talking nukes America =/= humanity.

I did some quick fact-checking, and according to wikipedia, you're correct, but your point eludes me. Could you elaborate?

Two Jar Slave - 2020-04-26

I don't have a point at all. I just get triggered when Americans talk like the fate of every person on Earth revolves around which cartoon character gets to be president.

(And no, that's not an attempt to minimize the differences between cartoon characters.)

Hazel, that's a fair point about Trumpism as a global phenomenon. If you meant "Leaders in all democratic nations who espouse similar progressive-liberal values as AOC and Omar are the future of humanity, not necessarily AOC and Omar themselves" then I just misunderstood. See also: 'triggered', above.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-26

Never mind, I see that it's a response to hazlenut. Don't know why you brought me into it, and I think Hazlenut's statement scans. AOC and Ilhan Omar are the future for America, but that's conditional on a future for humanity.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-26

I think you misunderstood, but yeah, you should call out people when they talk like that, respectfuly, which you did.

Hazelnut - 2020-04-26

I think we three are in full agreement here. Just crossed wires.

@Two Jar, you're completely right that some of us Americans talk as if our country is the whole world. I catch myself doing that even knowing it's a bad habit. I grew up in the 80's being taught that the President is the 'leader of the Free World'. God help us all.

Hm. I also probably shouldn't be on here posting after midnight. Blame the lockdown!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-26

Oh no, you should definitely be posting after midnight..

So you're American? But if it's after midnight you must be overseas somewhere,

Hazelnut - 2020-04-27

Yeah, American citizen living in the UK for years. For all its warts I sure am glad to live in a place with functioning public health care.

That’s also why I’m so easily triggered when one user talks shit about British Muslims or another about British Jews.

ashtar. - 2020-04-27

>>Give him a Democratic congress and a great depression, and you may see a new deal. I'm not saying it'll happen. I'm saying that its absolutely possible.

Biden got the nomination in order to prevent that. That's what the primary was about. Literally his whole career, worldview, staff, friends, and funding is based on opposing new deal style policies.

I believe women. I don't believe you, because you keep posting obvious lies like "Biden spent his whole life trying to destroy Social Security" and "Literally his whole career, worldview, staff, friends, and funding is based on opposing new deal style policies".

See? Constant spamming doesn't establish your credibility, it kills it.

I read the articles. Asher is using them as honestly as you’d expect. ‘Liberal defecit hawk’ != ‘tried his whole pife to destroy Social Security.’

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-27

>>>Biden got the nomination in order to prevent that. That's what the primary was about. Literally his whole career, worldview, staff, friends, and funding is based on opposing new deal style policies.

Don't care, you missed my point. Biden's entire career was not in a time of economic collapse like we are currenty facing.

I'm saying that MAYBE, if the political winds shift, Biden wil shift with them, and the winds are shifting. Bernie got that ball rolling, and Covid-19 is giving that ball another push.

Or maybe Biden will drop dead. And someone younger will take his place.

i'm going to ask a question that I don't know the answer to. In April of 1960, would anyone have predicted that the Democratic Senator from Texas, a man who known to use the N word, would push through groundbreaking civil rights legislation?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-27

The odds of Biden bringing in a new deal are, very roughly, equivalent to the odds that a second Trump term brings about real fascism. Greater than zero.

Shit is about to happen. There's only one way to play this. If you can't figure that out, you can't be very good at figuring out things.

ashtar. - 2020-04-27

Kind of! Something needed to be done, and LBJ was a maniac. The political calculus on the ground was shifting as northern blacks voted in greater numbers and the Democrats risked losing northern cities and unrest in the south if they didn't do something. And LBJ was a magnificent amoral bastard who only really cared about his own power and status, but was absolutely one of the most adept wielders of political power, especially in the senate, in the 20th century. Read the Caro bio if you have time! LBJ is an absolute giant compared to any modern American pol, except maybe Mitch McConnell.

https://www.ft.com/content/df505662-6140-37d4-9944-453e02f4556 d

Might Biden institute some sort of sweeping social-democratic reform? I mean, maybe? I sure hope so. It would mean undoing almost all of his career in the senate and as VP. That is to say: mass incarceration and the war on drugs, the student debt crisis, deregulation of wall street, endless foreign wars, enforcement-heavy immigration policy, and high cost for-profit health insurance are all things he is partly responsible for and things that any "New Deal" program would need to attack aggressively. His platform is sort of promising in some ways, e.g. adopting Warren's reversal of his bankruptcy bill, but how much he could (or even really wants to) implement the stuff in his platform is a real question.

Oddly, Biden's opportunism and weakness might be the best argument for him. We might be able to bully him. But it would at best be an uphill battle considering the money and influence of the business interests existentially threatened by the possibility necessary reform, Biden's record, the opposition amongst party leadership to Bernie's candidacy, and the relative weakness of congressional progressives.

TL;DR "Can Biden be pushed left?" Probably not. He's less actively harmful than Trump but I'd be very surprised if he or any VP acceptable to the party establishment actually took the drastic action to solve any of our current crises.

LBJ was cool.

ashtar. - 2020-04-27

>>I read the articles. Asher is using them as honestly as you’d expect. ‘Liberal defecit hawk’ != ‘tried his whole pife to destroy Social Security.’

Yeah, man, I never said that. Maybe crackersmack did? It's hyperbolic, but he did try to cut it several times. And yes, a career pushing austerity is absolutely 100% the opposite of new deal policies. If the balanced budget amendment that he voted for was passed it literally would be unconstitutional to do basic Keynesian deficit funded stimulus, let alone massively expanding social programs.

I'm kind of done responding to you unless you have something other than bad faith bullshit and trolling to contribute. Also, my name is "ashtar." it's not hard.

Hazelnut - 2020-04-28

Asher, do you see the irony of spamming /pol/ memes (“Drumpf cancelled! Surely the millionth iteration of the covfefe news cycle will be the end of cheeto voldemort!”) while getting sniffly about “bad faith bullshit and trolling” grom others? It makes you look silly.

Right now you’re a Trump cheerleader. You might pretend you’re not, even to yourself, but that what you are if you freak out at the least criticism of your precious leader while blowing every unsmurfy side of a Democrat (Warren’s ancestry, Biden’s debt hawkishness) wildly out of proportion.

And on top of that, you cheerlead Trump in this weirdly self-pitying voice, and that’s gonna get you made fun of.

ashtar. - 2020-04-28

I was worried I was being too harsh, so thanks for confirming you have nothing of substance to say.

Hazelnut - 2020-04-28

Again, you can do the huffy offended routine, or you can do the ‘cheeto voldemort’ routine, but when you do both at once you will get laughed at.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-04-27

Here's the thing. Maybe you don't think there's a big difference between Biden and Trump. But the next president will have to deal with the economic fallout of the pandemic. That's gonna be a big difference. When people are homeless, Trump will probably suggest a tax cut.

Crackersmack - 2020-04-27

>>Biden will use it as an excuse to cut Social Security and Medicare.

That's my expectation, especially if 2022 hands him a GOP congress. The hoped for Grand Bargain of 2011 a decade later. It's 100% in line with his record. Hopefully the movement of the Dems left since 2016 and AOC on tv yelling about it would make it less palatable.
