He not only did the same violence montage joke that Redlettermedia did, but used the exact same music?

"Pummeled harder than a pornstar on two bags of cocaine"

...on CRACK!

lol

Maggot Brain - 2020-07-22

I hate how asymmetrical and ugly everything in trek has become.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-07-22

This is why you should only be a fan of a good story, never a brand or a franchise.

Star Trek had three excellent TV series (with many dud episodes each) and a few decent movies, but it hasn't had a clear reason to exist for literally decades now.

SolRo - 2020-07-22

Star Trek has a decent world but the people running the franchise are idiots.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-07-22

At least Star Wars is SUPPOSED to be big, dumb action with a bit of alien goofiness. If you can make a movie that inspires kids to go "pshraaaawwww ksssh! kssh!" on the playground, that's it. Mission accomplished.

The trouble with Trek is that it has had some really thoughtful, inspired stories in the past which make the new direction look even dumber.

SolRo - 2020-07-22

“It’s supposed to be big and flashy” isn’t an excuse for exploding dumpster fires that burn down whole neighborhoods

Two Jar Slave - 2020-07-23

Sure it is. The expectations for stuff like Star Wars, Transformers, and Ninja Turtles are to entertain kids and sell toys. Being upset about their "bad" movies is like being upset about a gross new flavour of Oreos. It's just Oreos.

SolRo - 2020-07-23

I can’t agree with that. Pixar and many others have shown that “kids stuff meant to sell toys” can be very good.

I think that kind of accepting attitude is why we get garbage.

That guy - 2020-07-22

Why is this being low-starred for being shitty when the reason it's here is because it's shitty?

Two long-time members don't know how the site works.

Nominal, MacGuyer, explain yourselves.

SolRo - 2020-07-22

Personally because “Hur Hur Cal Arts” is the insult reactionary MRA ‘influencers’ like using and im betting that’s where redpillager picked it up.

Crackersmack - 2020-07-22

Didn't you hear? This is Portal Of Emotionally Fragile Middle-Aged Shut-Ins Validating Each Other now.

Maggot Brain - 2020-07-22

This is one of those vids I don't know how to rate. On one hand "five for evil" but on the other hand this is on of those vids that comes from cultural right that identifies trek/wars as one of the foundational pillars of western culture. Also not really "Cal Arts" style- Where are the "jelly bean" heads?

That guy - 2020-07-22

jesus fucking christ solro you are one of the biggest goddamned retards I have ever, ever met

Drink more, please.

exy - 2020-07-22

(i'll always do my best to prove myself the biggest 'tard ever.)

i mean, yeah, this video is pretty shite but I upvoted it because the cartoon looks fockin horrid and gene roddenberry's ghost demanded vengeance

SolRo - 2020-07-22

Lol, Bitch Guy got so offended that I didn’t like a video that he threw 1 star tantrum in my video history.

Such a stable genius

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2020-07-23

Same reasons as SolRo.

Seriously, fuck reactionary manchildren who get angry over cartoons.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-07-23

"Cal Arts" is the angry white nerd equivalent to "Frankfurt School",

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-07-23

SolRo I never said Discovery or Picard were good. They're shit.

Calm down.

Nominal - 2020-07-23

Because it's insipid and dull to the point that an official trailer would have been better to make fun of?

Am I being demanded to justify my rating from the guy who auto 1 stars every single Star Wars video regardless of content?

That guy - 2020-07-24

Yep!

Hazelnut - 2020-07-24

You guys convinced me

love - 2020-07-22

I especially loved the parts about how women comedians are awful, and the cartoon is virtue signaling with diversity, because no trek series was ever about diversity.

love - 2020-07-22

I mean yeah, the show looks like warmed over shit, but including different colors of character really wasn't the issue.

Pillager - 2020-07-22

Roddenberry's politics were progressive without being toxic.

Also, he'd be crucified for what happened to Grace Lee Whitney in todays climate.

exy - 2020-07-22

Yeah, that was probably the worst moment of the vid, as I recall

Binro the Heretic - 2020-07-22

This guy's voice is like having your ear canal reamed out with a rusty spoon.

Anyway, modern Star Trek series have the same problem as the American Godzilla movies.

Godzilla isn't about a giant monster smashing shit up. Sure, that's fun & exciting, but Gojira was a metaphor for our own technology coming back to bite us in the ass.

And Star Trek isn't a space adventure. It was never intended to be Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers. It's full of metaphors about the tumultuous culture of the 1960s.

Look at a story like "The Cloud Minders." It's about a planet where an elite few live in a literal city in the clouds and the bulk of the population lives on the surface doing the drudge work. The surface dwellers are, in fact, prone to violence and have greatly reduced mental faculties. The elites use this as justification for enslaving the surface dwellers.

But it turns out the surface dwellers are only stupid & violent because they're constantly exposed to a gas on the surface that causes behavioral problems and mental deficiency. If they're not exposed to the gas any more, they get better and are just as capable of achieving as the elites are.

The gas, of course, is a metaphor for poverty.

Star Trek shouldn't be a show about stuff happening in space in the future. It should be a show about what's happening here & now.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-07-23

I thought the first Star Trek reboot movie from JJ Abrams was not horrible. It was okay. The sequels got depressingly bad. Wow, great storyline with the explosions. I didn't know explosions were a storyline now but apparently they put as much work into those films as the Transformers sequels.

The more CBS makes Star Trek, the more it misses the point of Star Trek. They keep getting further away from anything hopeful or optimistic.

I showed the trailer for Below Decks to my best friend, who is a huge hardcore Star Trek fan. He kept asking me if I was kidding. He kept thinking it had to be a gag or something. A lot of people can't even believe this is a real project.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-07-23

Below Decks looks like pure cynicism without any relief or any commentary on anything. It just exists to exist. They just stole the template of Final Space, which itself is very unoriginal, and basically changed a few things. Wow, the main character is being humiliated and isn't good at his job and gets shown up by other people. Really breakthrough comedy, CBS.

SolRo - 2020-07-23

Oh no! CBS has broken their streak of high quality intellectual Star Trek adaptations!

Maggot Brain - 2020-07-23

"It should be a show about what's happening here & now."

Wasn't Picard supposed to be about Brexit?

I'm not disagreeing, just that in our hyper-neo-liberal moment any moralizing or critique is rendered useless due to market forces.

Also the fan base has never been in the same head space as Roddenberry. A lot of people just want to be in the nerd-navy IN SPACE.

casualcollapse - 2020-07-23

Fuck everything about this show, fuck it and it's stupid ass right out the window

Shameless
