Do you have a source on that? I agreee the Electoral College sucks ass, but surely when the Constitution was written it would have favoured free states like Maine and Rhode Island over the much more populous slave states like Virginia and the Carolinas.

It was only wiith industrialization a few decades later that the North's population boomed past the South's.

The EC was a bone that the Constitutional Convention threw to dumb-ass farmers so they could have disproportional voting power as compared to the big-city elites.
