This is so, so lazy. The writers of this went with the easiest possible copycat of bad early 90s comedies. The wacky cartoon music is especially out of place. This whole thing has a really weird Ernest movie vibe to it. Ernest does not gel well with Addams.

The tone of the Addams Family was subtle, and that subtlety really worked. Even the sitcom didn't make Fester that unbelievable. He was just a wacko who looked like a hunchback of Notre Dame. But he wasn't off putting as a character. I always loved both Festers because they were both underdog characters. They were just the right amount of wacky but not off putting wacky. Wednesday in the first two movies was precise and unnerving when you wanted her to be. The movie sets up that joke as a metaphor for anyone that has been forced to be cheerful in a fake environment. You could easily relate to that as an audience. Morticia is miscast here, she sounds unconvinced that she's Morticia.
