We're not going to see compliance with basic public health mitigation measures if Trump emerges unscathed.

If he emerges unscathed, we're not going to see Trump leave politics. The oligarchs who prop him up will buy OANN as a outlet, and he'll remain a noisome gnat, interfering with both governance and attempts of reform-minded Republicans to become a reality based party again.

My personal preference, on utilitarian grounds, is relapse up to requiring a double lung transplant. He'll be aware of the outcomes in his criminal and civil trials, but won't be able to interfere with the nation's recovery.

I have always felt Trump to be weirdly sympathetic, in a Frankenstein Monster sort of way. He's a broken person, a man whose fear of humilition is sometimes quite poigniant. Humility is really the only unconditional love of self, the ability to love yourself AS YOU ARE. I've never seen anyone so bereft of humility. He NEEDS to believe he's a stable genius because he hates the person he actually is.

I believe that, for trump, to die now, before the election, would be merciful.

Trump won't break America. He might do a little token bitching if he loses, but he won't risk losing all the benefits afforded to ex-presidents which he would surely get stripped of if he foments actual rebellion.

If he dies, he'll always be the mighty warrior king. The longer he lives, the more he will let his followers down.
