I think of Hazelnut as a person of good faith who tends to overreact wildly to these particular discussions, and I think of SolRo as someone who I usually agree with, who is also a big raging tool. I believe Hazlenut is wrong about the description encouraging general hatred of Jews, but I also believe that SolRo must be aware that he was going to trigger Hazlenut. To put it another way, I can't see this as a shot at Jews, but a shot at Hazlenut? Yeah, THAT I can totally fucking see, considering how many times we've all lived through this.

But, as I can't truly tease out SolRo's motives, and since it's obviously futile to ask SolRo to not be a raging tool, I would ask Hazlenut to consider not being so easily trolled.

it's a matter of context. SolRo posted this video immediately after the "dumb goys" line that you yourself agree is way out of line. That's his trolling style: attack Jews as people, and when called about it cry "Israel!" He's far from alone in this.

There's such a thing as too much context. A statement consists of the words used, and what the words mean. You can put two statements from SolRo together to attempt a critical narrative, but when discussing the description for this post, you can't say that the statement IS SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE WORDS AND WHAT THEY MEAN because of a different statement. I maintain that the description, the original point of contention, is not offensive. SolRo may have meant something other than what he said, but what he said is what he said.

The problem, as I see it, is that Hazelnut sees Jews as a marginalized people, and SolRo, at least in the context of Israel, sees Jews as the marginalizers of others, if that's even a word.

They're both right... and, as they get madder and madder, they both try to claim the high ground by portraying the other as racist. SolRo carried it so far as to cross a line, not into outright racism, but into racial insensitivity.

Around 40-50 years ago, we tried to fix racism without hurting anyone's feelings, or sacrificing anyone's privilege. The result is that these days, everyone is at least a little bit racist, and yet racism is our greatest taboo. We can see it in others, and refuse to see it in ourselves. And it sure looks like we're all going to have to deal with it some more.

I just saw a video where someone asks Bas Ruten about krav maga and he starts off by saying, he thinks Krav Maga is excellent because they teach it to Israeli soldiers, and they're the best soldiers. I can't believe even he buys the myth. I'd argue the success of the Israeli military is owed more to missiles, tanks, and helicopters.
Military Martial arts training is really just a distraction. No one is mastering hand to hand fighting in a few weeks. It's just something to get the troops motivated. Like pugil sticks. You're not learning any real fighting from those giant cue-tips. It's just something to break the monotony of boot camp.
