Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-07-25
See, I don't normally like the idea of the death penalty, but in this case I wouldn't mind a few guillotines being built around Bayer.

The real story is way more complicated and this news report is of course completely biased. Do a Google search on "Bayer HIV drug" to get somewhat more balanced coverage... basically they were making a hemophilia drug long before HIV was even known about, and some of their donor blood supply was tainted with said virus. As soon as they were aware of the problem they began heat-treating the drug to kill the virus, and they have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to patients who became infected as a result of the drug.
The third-world sales of the drugs are easy to claim as being evil in retrospect, but at the time it wasn't even fully-established that HIV and AIDS were even linked.
It was a giant catastrophe, but more as an "ignorance costs lives" thing than a "megacorporations are evil and care more about profits than human lives" thing.
