This is a great show when they're not involved in one of their contrived drama arcs (ex wife!). Anyone who complains about it being formulaic has obviously never watched a mystery show before.
Also apologizing for his scruffy appearance to the casting person? That'd be so awesome if it was unintentional and he just rolled out of bed in a hung over stupor, nailed the character, and people loved it so much they wrote it into the character.
Look! It's Hugh Laurie! And he's a really good actor!
Watching Fry & Laurie, I knew he was a brilliant actor. Watching House, I know he can be anything he wants.
It's always fun to see somebody act their ass off in a vacuum, without the trappings of a set or even another actor to bounce off of.
