For those not familiar, check out the Wikipedia entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Park

That loop slide was never opened once over the many years I went there.

More gory details:

I was too much of a coward to ever go on the Alpine Slide or the Freefall slide. I kind of regret it now. On the other hand, I'm also not dead either.

Corman's Inferno - 2007-08-23

It's an amusement park designed and managed by O.C. & Stiggs. Wonderful.

Feyd - 2007-08-23

Oh man, you missed out. That freefall slide was the best, even if the 5 minutes after were spent trying to claw your shorts out of your ass.

Hooper_X - 2007-08-24

five stars for the O.C. & Stiggs reference alone. The rest is pretty good too, tho.

StanleyPain - 2007-08-22

I'm so angry I never experienced this place. I constantly saw the ads during the summers my family spent in NJ.

revdrew - 2007-08-22

It's still open, in pussified form, as Mountain Creek Waterpark. Man, they even shut down Surf Hill. :(

jeremysfishdied - 2007-08-22

My sister worked there. Her job was to sit on a perch above the Alpine Slide and call the paramedics when people flew off the track and got injured. Not if- when.

Jeriko-1 - 2007-08-23

That park looks FUCKING AWESOME.

Darwin Land!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-08-23

Well that guy was right about it having rides like no place else on earth...

baleen - 2007-08-23

All of my Jersey friends have a story about action park... those rides are absolutely insane, but sound funner than anything, providing you didn't locate anything or die.

baleen - 2007-08-23

I meant dislocate.

Jeff Fries - 2007-08-23

No wonder you east coast fuckers are carved out of wood

Cube - 2007-08-23

I really wish YouTube would start normalizing the audio of their clips.

Billings - 2007-08-23

Is it just me, or is the YouTube volume control completely useless? It doesn't seem to do much at all for the top half of its travel which leads me to believe that NERD it's a linear scale volume control rather than logarithmic like it should be

Angel Carver - 2007-08-23

Oh shit, I totally skinned my knee on one of their water slides!

zatojones - 2007-08-23

Wow. I had forgotten all about Action Park. I so wanted to ride those go karts but my folks would never take me.

lolcoolj - 2007-08-23

From the wiki: Park officials said this made the injury and death rate statistically insignificant. Nevertheless, the director of the emergency room at a nearby hospital said they treated from five to ten victims of park accidents on some of the busiest days, and the park eventually bought the township of Vernon extra ambulances to keep up with the volume.

Now THAT'S a theme park.

Stopheles - 2007-08-23

The Mr. Show "DEVASTATOR!!!" skit reminded me instantly of the Action Park ads, which I got to see only because my Eastern-CT town's cable company included WPIX in the basic package.

My parents absolutely refused to drive five hours so that they could see me break my neck on a mountainside slide.

More's the pity.

waxeater - 2007-08-23

I was really young on my first and only trip to Action Park. All I rode was the Alpine Slide and I was scared shitless to move at anything other than what can best be described as a slow crawl. The people stuck behind me would grab their slides, hop off the track, step back in front of me, and then continue their rapid race towards total annihilation.

Menudo con queso - 2007-08-23

I really believe the last guy -- he's got the breathless fear/joy of someone who has just been in death's grip. And the lighting on his face gives him that creepy German Expressionist skullface look.

cognitivedissonance - 2007-08-23

Man, all we Seattlites got was Enchanted Village, with nothing good in it except 40 year old nursery rhyme animatronics lifted from the 1962 World's Fair.

So... much... RUST.

Menudo con queso - 2009-03-12

I went there once! Yeah, it SUCKED!

glasseye - 2007-08-23

East coast accents + certain death = totally hilarious.

happy_ending - 2007-08-24

That last shot should have had blood shooting up.

Jeriko-1 - 2007-10-27

Also fived because the guy in the still looks like Robbie Rotten!
