* 10-20 seconds is the perfect length. it almost demands that the viewer watch the clip again and again.

* the cameraman speaking is integral to drawing the viewer into the clip. the "oh crap" coda of this video is perfect.

* there must exist a rising tension that culminates in a point directly before the actual trauma. the kid in this video crying "oh shit" is a perfect example. like greek tragedy we need to see that there is some preventable fault that is responsiable for the trauma we witness. if the fat kid wouldn't have instigated the action then the video would not be tragic and pleasureable to view. the "dude it's not gonna work" from the banana fire video is another example of this rule.
