The part at the end where Old Kid Jersey goes "thank you" = Mr. Show stops being all smartassed and ironic for a second and gives us an "awwww" moment.
It's kind of a call-back gag, too.

This is, bar none, the strangest comedy sketch I've ever seen.
And that is why it is funny.

This reminds me of a Kids in the Hall sketch about an escape artist who spends 50 years stuck in a straitjacket.
