This is probably one of the best films ever made. And I hate, hate, HATE anime.

Meh. Just go rent it or buy it. This RIP is like watching a movie on an iPod. Bleh. If you really think this is a good movie, you can't possibly thing watching it this size is worth it.

Aside from Speed Racer and so on, this is the first real japanese animation I sat down and watched. I still get chills at the title crawl...

31 YEARS AFTER WORLD WAR III

Not to go comic-book guy on anyone but the comic's opening was just as chilling: every major city in the world bought a nuke that day..."One by one the great cities fell...Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Rome, New York, Washington, Leningrad, Moscow, ... "(etc.)

Anyway this is really one of my favorite movies of all time. I have it on DVD, Laserdisk (criterion collection) and I used to own it on VHS. Ahem. Sorry.

This is where it started for me.

I love this movie, even if the comic is 10 times better. The new dub is a great improvement, too.

Renting this when I was like 13 was when I realized they made cartoons in Japan. And they fucking kicked the all-living shit out of nearly anything else I'd ever seen on TV except Giant Robot cartoons, and maybe COPS.

Also, I'd say Walker got turned down the path of evil, deception, cute underage girls/underage girl-looking-anime-catpeople, and sailor suits in exactly the same way a whole twentieth of the generation did: waking up at four in the morning because other cartoons officially suck.

We all should have known better and stayed away from Dominion: Tank Police and All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku and watched more The Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Area 88.

I know you didn't just diss Dominion: Tank Police.

What else would I vote this?

+8 million stars for Cam Clarke as Kaneda.

Oh yes. That fantastic bit of score, "Doll's Polyphony," still puts my hair on end.

The new dub sucks. The acting is completely emotionless and everything's paraphrased. The movie is much better than the comic (which is great)

Never liked the new dub. Yet, 5 stars!
