I'm sure it's comforting to our various state and federal peace officers that the rubber band doesn't make the assault weapon a true fully-automatic weapon. I mean, the rate of fire isn't at its theoretical optimum. You'd have to visit a machinists shop or buy a special kit at a gun show to do that.

This trick isn't excusive to pistol-caliber carbines, but it probably makes the recoil more managable.

I'm fairly certain that the ATF ruled recently that any device used to aid bumpfiring can be construed as illegal. Doing it with a finger alone is still fine.

Also, the reason civilians need automatic weapons is the same reason that people "need" Winnebagos, 5000 square foot houses, or ass dildos: because they want them. In a free society, for a government to ban something, it must prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that said item is unequivocally dangerous or harmful of its own accord -- not that people don't "need" them. Beyond that, a government that fears its citizens is far more preferable than a citizenry that fears its government.

The government is not afraid of this fellow. The government has F-22s. I, on the other hand, am afraid of him, and am happy to vote that such a weapon is dangerous.
