It was a game developed by Northrop / Carnegie Mellon to serve as an interactive recruiting aid. Trainwrecks all around, really; defense contractors make terrible game development companies/partners.

If it's anything like Lockheed (I actually contract for them through my university right now--I placate my conscience with the fact that I work in training and simulation, and not blowing up brown people), they aren't really "layoffs", people just bounce around between internal projects. The Man really does offer pretty awesome job flexibility and benefits, if you can silence that little voice in the back of your head.
