This isn't going to turn into "Dictators and Comment Wars Week", is it?

voodoo_pork - 2007-09-26

I'd actually be interested in what they're talking about.

zatojones - 2007-09-26

KPAX probably

Roachbud - 2007-09-26

Spacey is helping Venezuela develop its movies. Then he was headed to Cuba. A lot of chatter about how tragically the two men's meeting ended too.

baleen - 2007-09-27

Well, K-PAX was a complete and almost word for word ripoff of Argentina's "Man Facing Southeast." Spacey never gave Eliseo Subiela any money, typical capitalist fascist pig that he is.

LetsFistAgain - 2007-09-26

Id rather live in Venezuela than Colombia though.

papercut_junky - 2007-09-26

Now now... Chavez isn't a dictator, yet. When he makes that leap (and he will make that leap) I would really hope all the people who've been supporting him have the balls to come out and say they were wrong.

mr666 - 2007-09-26

It is kind of odd how he is slowly inching his way into full blown dictator, isn't it?

yoyo1 - 2007-09-26

OMG he's totally not licking USA's ass, he must be an evil dictator.
FAGDANCE.

Menudo con queso - 2007-09-26

Make you a deal, as soon as the Venezuelan oligarchs come out and admit they were as bad or worse for the country, we'll do what you suggest. And it will be a cold day in Miami before that ever happens.

I'm thrilled that (supposedly) Chavez is bankrolling Danny Glover's Toussaint L'Ouverture biopic. That would be suh-weet.

papercut_junky - 2007-09-26

Venezuela has had absolute shit rulers in the past (which is to say almost all of them), but that shouldn't be a reason to accept what Chavez is doing. I don't think you'd use that kind of reasoning with your sister... "hey sis, you're so lucky to have that new husband of yours given that he only beats you five times a week instead of eight."

Menudo con queso - 2007-09-26

Thousands dead a year? Thousands forcibly disappeared? Millions displaced? Union leaders and journalists constantly threatened and killed? Top levels of government and the military repeatedly tied to death squads? All paid for and sustained with Uncle Sam's dime? Don't look at Caracas, that's Bogota. If that's "democracy"...

papercut_junky - 2007-09-26

Again, you're missing the point. Just because your neighbour shits on his dinner doesn't mean you should feel good about pissing on yours.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-09-27

Yes but for all of his faults, Chavez pisses on Bush nearly every day. That alone is worth having him in power. When was the last time the prime minister or president of anywhere not the Middle East told Bush to go to hell?

EvilHomer - 2007-09-27

So as long as Chavez is "our guy", he's OK?

Roachbud - 2007-10-23

Plus Columbia has a lot of forces at work that have nothing to do with the government, most notably cocaine
