No, they changed it so that Greedo shot first, misses, then Han shot him from under the table. The effort to portray Han as a noble thief killing in self defense instead of a ruthless mercenary backfired by making him seem like a giant pussy.

This is important less for what it is than for what it represents--it's not a purely cosmetic change, it significantly changes the audience's perception of the character. Is it right for an artist to go back and alter previously completed work? Especially in film, which is such a collaborative art? What did Harrison Ford think of this? IT'S A CAN OF WORMS HERE PEOPLE. I don't know that it makes him a pussy, but since (in the original) we don't hear the other side of the conversation, we don't know for sure whether Han's life is in immediate danger or is he really a ruthless untrustworthy bastard. When you see "Star Wars" it shouldn't be a given at the beginning that he's got a heroic streak, so when he saves Luke at the end, there is at least a little bit of surprise.

The new version, with subtitles and Greedo shooting first, instead illustrates that Han only fires in self-defense, and only after all methods of peaceful resolution have been exhausted.
