Shadow Hearts: Covenant is actually a pretty awesome satire of JRPGs/anime/video game logic, because it takes all the retarded conventions and cliches that we all know so well and puts them in the context of Eurasia in 1917. The result is Princess Anastasia and Gepetto flying a rocket-powered airship for instantaneous travel between Milan, Moscow, and Tokyo in order to save the noble and kindly Tsar from the machinations of a demon-possessed Rasputin, and then moving onward to stop the Japanese government's program to genetically engineer intellegent super-apes (that happen to be really hot). Also, there is no sign of World War I anywhere after the opening sequence, although we're told it is RAGING.
SH:C is the best RPG I've played on the PS2, with the possible exception of Dragon Warrior 8.

Just like in real life.
Also, in Shadow Hearts 3, you meet Al Capone, who employs a giant talking cat as one of his underbosses. The cat is a master of the martial arts and in the end she wins an Oscar.
