Killer Joe - 2008-01-01
5 for Fedor, -3 for all the drama, +2 for the announcer killing them "R's"

Also 5 for Fedor. He fucking terrifies me.

The Nogueira/Sapp fight was a better champion vs. ridiculously-huge-guy match, in my opinion.

Dr Dim - 2008-01-01
Very nice juji from Fedor, but I am sick of looking at Hong Man Choi. He needs to fight Mighty Mo about ten more times then retire, or start some kind of mutant league with Bob Sapp and Semmy Schilt.

Awww, his mum kissed him after the win.

Automatic five for Fedor.
Roachbud, however, could beat them both up with his Kung Fu magic.

I have no clue what happened to make that guy win. It looked like he did the same arm thing he did before but suddenly this time the ref called the fight? I've seen some good MMA highlights but this was just a couple of guys crawling on the ground.
|
Aoi - 2008-01-02 He trapped both arms in a leglock, and could've probably snapped the guy's right arm, at least, at the elbow, if he felt like it, or at least inflict some serious harm, having both arms trapped and thus making escape very difficult. Guy knew it, and submitted.
|
Millard - 2008-01-02 Ah I didn't see the submission. Just looked like the ref called it.
|
Aoi - 2008-01-02 Hard to see or hear, yeah...I assume he managed a small tap with the fingers on his left hand, or gave it verbally, but the mic didn't pick it up.
|
Dr Dim - 2008-01-02 It's called an armbar, or jujigatame. Choi tapped on the ground.
The other techniques you might have noticed were "punches" and a couple of "takedowns". It's confusing, I know.
|
waxeater - 2008-01-02 He escaped the first one but not the second. How is that so hard to understand?
|
|
Ahriman the Creepy Lurker - 2008-01-02 Actually, scratch that--look at the replay from a better angle around 3:40 or so. You can clearly see Choi tapping out.

Fedor is one of the scariest men alive. If robots ever rise up to destroy us I elect him to the job of kicking their asses

Proof that skills trump size any day.

FIVE!

only one star because boxing is stupid

Billy Buttsex - 2008-01-02 You're right. It's extreme hugging. That being said, I wish I could give it less stars.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-01-02
MMA still looks like two guys rolling around awkwardly on the ground, but I'll damned if that wasn't clever.
|
waxeater - 2008-01-02 Especially when they're punching and kicking each other, amirite?
|
Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-01-03 In the (admittedly few) MMA matches I've seen, it's usually a little bit of decent stand-up punching and kicking that devolves into holds, holds and more holds by 30 seconds' time.
Granted, it's more effective in real fighting and involves a good amount of physical prowess, but it's just not something I'd label as must-see TV.
