Not the ending per se, but damn intense nevertheless. And spoilerific.

Yeah, it's not the ending, it's the end of Act I. Although when you get right down to it, the actual ending isn't too much cheerier than this.

The scene gets even more depressing if you walk to the right of the mushroom cloud, which takes you to a playground.
IT'S NO HALO 2 SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN, THOUGH

EvilHomer - 2008-02-29 Yeah, that's what I did. The last thing I saw was a slide and empty swingset, the last thing I heard was the ghostly laugh of now-dead children. Oh goodie.
The best part, in retrospect, was how right before the last "Quick! It's Blackhawk Down!" mission, the commander's saying something like "You know if you go back, you might not have enough time to escape if that nuke goes off" and you're thinking to yourself "Yeah, yeah, dramatic tension building, just set me down and let me grab the pilot already". Next time a video game character tells you you're putting your e-life in grave jeopardy, you damn well better listen.

Having this scene spoiled for me was what ultimately inspired me to get this game. And boy am I glad.
