"Touch me not. Bug off"
"Thanks."

French films aren't strange by design. According to this, they've just never learned how to communicate.

Smellvin - 2008-02-25

Or they were translated by Germans who learned British English.

+4 for refusing to touch a Frenchman
-1 for a Frenchman doing it

wtf japan - 2008-02-25

I think a more accurate translation would be "Don't touch me. I do not want our unique dirts to mingle."

Billy Buttsex - 2008-02-25

According to Wikipedia, the exchange went

"Hey, don't touch me!"
"Take off, then."
"You're making me dirty"
"Take off, then, dumb-ass, get out of here."

Sarkozy's just too damn cool.

EvilHomer - 2008-02-25

From what little I remember of French vulgarities (assuming the subtitles are correct, "pauvre con" sounds muddled to me and may not even be what he said), I think a better translation would be "Piss off then, you poor cunt". Then he's right back to greeting the crowds!

This is a Frenchmen I can respect.

CBC translated this as "piss off, you pathetic jerk".
