Next up: pit bull maims todler

dueserpenti - 2008-03-05

So...are you one of those people who hate dogs, or one of those people who hate babies?

mouser - 2008-03-05

Considering I have two kids and would have gotten more, I dont hate babies.

I also always wanted a great dane but dont have time for that. So I dont hate some dogs.

Definitely on my hate list:

- ankle biters and other yappers
- breeds made for maiming and dick-length contests (pitt bulls included)
- hyena-wielding machete congo wranglers

EvilHomer - 2008-03-05

I know, I know, big mean doggie is weally, weally scawey! But you've obviously not had any experience with the breed, dear lady. Pitbulls are actually remarkably well-behaved around children, not just for a dog with a "reputation" as a killing machine, but for any dog breed period. I'd sooner trust my kids around a strange pitbull than I would around a strange dachshund or a strange poodle, so if it's baby-safety you're looking for, pitbulls are the way to go. Not only will they sit calmly and patiently while Junior pokes them in the eyes and steals their rawhide chews, but their massive doggy-dick will scare off wouldbe child molestors and poorly informed hyena-wielding machete congo wranglers like a Great Dane never could.

So why do you hate babies?

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-05

You know what else you should fear your babies coming in contact with? The Internet! And video games! And foreign people!

bias - 2008-03-05

heres a challenge, go to your local animal shelter and see how many of the dogs there are pit bulls. And then find out how many of them are there because the owner couldn't deal with the dogs behavior. If its anything like it is in Toronto before the ban, pit bulls will make up the majority of the dogs there, often because the dog had some "incident." More than a few of them are there because the dog acts hostile towards kids. I have no idea if this is nature or nurture, alot of the people with pitbuls are fucktards who buy them for security or to look tough. But regardless the breed seems prone towards violent behavior that occasionally gets someone killed.

theSnake - 2008-03-05

Yeah, all those stories about good Pit Bulls suddenly snapping are just anti Pit Bull propaganda! Get one yourself and see that a Pit Bull can totally go through life without maiming a human or other animal at least 50% of the time!

A Jumping Spider! - 2008-03-05

Nevermind all that! How do you wield a hyena?

mouser - 2008-03-05

With a stick in it's ass.

EvilHomer - 2008-03-05

INTERNET ARGUMENT, ACTIVATE!

bias- It's not a question of the owner "not being able to deal with the dog's behavior". It's what behavior the owner tried to teach the dog. I've had a total of eight pit bulls over the course of my life, and over half of them were rescued from shelters. Not one ever gave us any trouble, except for Rosie, who was actually so timid and scared of the three-dozen high school freshman living next door we had to sell her to a family out in the country. Yes, SHE was scared of THEM; there's nothing like seeing a pint-sized pitbull quaking in fear every time a thirteen year old kid runs by shouting obscenities at his friends.

Is it nature of nurture? It's nurture. Their nature is great, and like stated before, they're famous for their saintly behavior around adults and children. They don't like other DOGS, and pitbull owners have to be careful (especially with males) that Tadger doesn't eat your neighbour's corgie, but who cares about other dogs? You can even check "the experts" if you don't believe me; the AKC doesn't officially recognize pits, but here's their rundown on the pits oft-confused twin brother, the Staffy:

http://www.akc.org/breeds/staffordshire_bull_terrier/index.cfm

Pay close attention to the temperament entry.

theSnake- let's see some of those "stories", and contrary to bumpkin folklore, pitbulls are neither particularly prone to "snapping" (50%?) nor do they account for any significant percent of total dog attacks. (http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html) Pit bull attacks receive the most attention because A- they're pitbulls, and folks know that, just like with stories about suspicious-looking foreigners, middle aged idiots will piss themselves and lap up the residue whenever a pitbull trots across the front page and B- pitbulls are considerably tougher than your average dog, so they tend to do more damage on the rare occasion they go apeshit. Still, I'd rather have a dog who might be able to kill me and has null chance of actually trying to bite me than a dog who'll merely rip my fingers off and is liable to do it if I don't feed him promptly at five o'clock.

Dogs > Kittens

DrVital - 2008-03-05

Amen brother.

Stog - 2008-03-05

UNCOORDINATED SLAP ATTACK ON DOG!

DOG TAKES NO DAMAGE!

kelpfoot - 2008-03-05

-1 for lack of dog-on-baby violence.

Menudo con queso - 2008-03-05

It's a little known fact that babies taste even better than lamb.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-03-05

that baby is brutal, there needs to be some legislation that limits the ownership of babies.

I dont need this baby attacking my dog.

AgentOrange - 2008-03-05

Where's Namor? I guess Mouser will have to stand in.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-05

I don't want to sound like I condone abuse, but the pit bull was clearly asking for it by getting so close to the baby.

smoothbrain - 2008-03-05

pfft - he clearly should have gone for the kimura

Jeff Fries - 2008-03-06

It's just a crummy commercial
