Man, this is bad isn't it? Can somebody who knows a bit about the subject please let me know if I am just being an alarmist and everything is going to be OK?

ChocFullOfFunk - 2008-03-18

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_housing_bubble

I don't know anything more about the matter than other people who read the news, but the wikipedia does!

drcrypt - 2008-03-18

This is pretty misleading. The accompanying story makes it clear that like 95% of these people are just regular homeless people, not victims of the housing bubble burst, and these "tent cities" were set up before the housing bubble burst as well.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-03-18

I was gonna say: none of these people look like they're capable of making sound economic decisions and/or holding a job.

themilkshark - 2008-03-18

Meanwhile, we are freaking out over Naruto and its stranglehold on our children's sand obsessions.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-03-18

let them eat cake.

kingarthur - 2008-03-18

I truly hope you're trying to be funny.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-03-19

Well, judging from the looks of things, they've had cake access for a while. Now go and gather your acorns, fatties! Chop that firewood!

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-18

You think it's odd that we have to depend on foreign news agencies to report the bad news happening in the US?

SolRo - 2008-03-18

beat me to it.

EVERYONE GO BACK TO BUYING STUFF, EVERYTHING IS FINE!

zatojones - 2008-03-18

What? I hear about the housing crisis constantly from domestic news sources.

baleen - 2008-03-18

Uh, yeah. It's on the front page of every fucking newspaper in the country? I dunno man.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-03-18

AMERICA IS LYING TO YOU AND HAS YOU UNDER ITS CONTROL

Udderdude - 2008-03-18

Fuck.

kiint - 2008-03-18

uhh lots of those camps have been there for years...it's like american pikeys

Jeriko-1 - 2008-03-18

No one is disputing that.

The issue was the scores of 'former' middle class finding themselves at the tent cities with a kind of dazed 'how-the-fuck-did-that-happen?' on their faces.

The original bums suddenly have lots of new neighbors...

kingarthur - 2008-03-18

I can show you a good numberof FEMA camps that ar still running because of 1. the housing bubble making it so there's no where to go.

Poverty - 2008-03-18

I've seen places like this. It's like a look into the third world. Scary

Lurchi - 2008-03-18

kiint - 2008-03-18

Probably a good indicator that our economy is in the crapper. Meanwhile we spend about billion a month in Iraq. Kudos to BBC for finding the story. I'm sure Fox news is working on it (wink wink).

wtf japan - 2008-03-18

Plenty of jobs in Canada. Let's leave the U.S. to the Mexicans and hop the fence into that syrupy promised land.

Phil - 2008-03-18

Alberta is your promised land! jobs all around! just please don't come to the maritimes, we have too few jobs already, and are too lazy to withstand any competition for these jobs.

SARS - 2008-03-18

you'd be Canada's mexicans.
I'm going to start patrolling my border now

Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-03-18

I hear there's plenty of jobs over in Hooverville.
