This is pretty misleading. The accompanying story makes it clear that like 95% of these people are just regular homeless people, not victims of the housing bubble burst, and these "tent cities" were set up before the housing bubble burst as well.
The issue was the scores of 'former' middle class finding themselves at the tent cities with a kind of dazed 'how-the-fuck-did-that-happen?' on their faces.
The original bums suddenly have lots of new neighbors...
Probably a good indicator that our economy is in the crapper. Meanwhile we spend about billion a month in Iraq. Kudos to BBC for finding the story. I'm sure Fox news is working on it (wink wink).
