I can see how the rhetoric would make people uncomfortable, but his facts seem pretty much correct.

shabumike - 2008-03-23

I can see how the rhetoric would make people uncomfortable too, the truth hurts.

The Great Hippo - 2008-03-23

I've never been for making others feel guilty for the various cruelties America (and every other country) has inflicted upon the world; however, it'd be really nice if we could get over our sense of entitlement and realize that, yes, eventually you DO get shit on your cock when you regularly fuck people up the ass.

Four stars for a minister that read an actual history book.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-03-23

"A people's history of the United States," if you can call that multicultural garbage a history book.

War happens. Bad people exist. Good people get killed because of it.

The Great Hippo - 2008-03-23

Hey, Billy. Tell me again how voting Obama makes me a race-traitor? Or how women need strong men to protect their wombs from losers? Or how gay marriage will ravage the moral fabric of our country?

Adramelech - 2008-03-23

+1 star for using "multicultural" as an insult.

kingarthur - 2008-03-23

He spoke the truth! Are the Fox and Republican crowd sooooo desperate to find something nasty on Obama that they'll reduce to chopping things up out of context?

Don't answer that, the Conservative propoganda machine and talk radio have been doing it on any number of issues for years.

kingarthur - 2008-03-23

I also like how they replay "America's chickens are coming home to roost" portion over and over because it'll remind old-ass white people of what Malcolm X said when asked about the assasination of JFK and that'll have old-ass white people making the connection between "uppity nigras". In fact, it's almost a direct quote of X.

Harveyjames - 2008-03-23

That guy is 'RIGHT ON', to use the vernacular of the coloured man.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-03-23

You're absolutely right, Reverend Wright! None of those people we attacked were guilty! In fact, we should have just let them do whatever they wanted, including Panamanian murderer drug dealers and Iraq, the latter of which was CONDEMNED BY UNANIMOUS UNITED NATIONS VOTES for building weaponry prohibited BY A GODDAMNED CEASE-FIRE (rockets, etc) AND NOT ACTUAL PEACE TIME.

This man is an America hater and a Communist and a victimhood-preaching black. We should kill this asshole, not try to legitimize him. Get some brains, and then maybe some balls.

Harveyjames - 2008-03-23

Why do you come here, Billy

Stopheles - 2008-03-23

Jesus was an America hater, a Communist and a victimhood-preaching Jew.

The Great Hippo - 2008-03-23

Well fuck, man. Who HASN'T the UN condemned for building weaponry prohibited by a ceasefire? Shit, they condemned your mom for that just last week!

Admittedly though, an independent committee *did* find me culpable in helping her construct the necessary infrastructure.

(HA HA! ZING!)

StanleyPain - 2008-03-23

That was a decent troll until the Communist bit. C'mon..try harder.

C+ IMPROVING WITH EFFORT.

TheDevilsDictionary - 2008-03-23

He is basically just criticizing American foreign policy. MLK called Vietnam an "abominable, evil, unjust war" but no one calls him a "hate preacher" or says he "hated America".

themilkshark - 2008-03-23

Screw Obama, I want this guy for president.

wtf japan - 2008-03-23

Actually, that's pretty accurate in a completely linear way. We trained and equipped the Mujahideen that performed the attacks. No need to attribute it to karmic punishment for unconnected wrongs. I tend to think a piddly couple 1000 deaths hardly amounts to complete retribution anyway.

Robin Kestrel - 2008-03-23

The same "foxhole mentality" of blind nationalism he is rightly trying to get people to examine is the same mentality that was tapped to blow this non-issue into a controversy.

Also, this was not intended for a national general audience; he was speaking to his congregation. And in a church specifically created to minister to the black community, I'd expect franker talk about racism and social injustice that you'd get at your typical white house of worship. Preachers are supposed to inspire their congregations, get them motivated, get them thinking about things. Reverend Wright is therefore going to get pretty fired up when he's speaking forcefully against the institutions of oppression. So out of 4,000 plus sermons, I'm not surprised that someone can come up with a few soundbytes where the guy seems to be overcome by a righteous rage, and is saying some deliberately impolitic and provocative things that only seem surprising if you forget the setting and the audience.

Gymnosophist - 2008-03-23

This just confirms his craziness

jangbones - 2008-03-23

maybe if you keep telling yourself that, it will become true

after a couple of months, if it's still not working, try telling yourself that as fast as you possibly can twenty four hours a day, like a mantra, like a hare krishna

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-23

Has anyone else noticed an air of desperation in the attitudes shown by the people who tried to make this an issue?
