Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-03-30

A still shot of this scene terrified me back in the day

Scynne - 2008-03-30

Baffled.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-03-30

What the hell was that.

kiint - 2008-03-30

the main characters have these big strange angel/demon things that follow them around...but then theres this very annoying chick in a lot episodes which is usually when I change the channel

dead_cat - 2008-03-30

What is going on in this scene, then?

kingarthur - 2008-03-30

The main character's "death angel" really likes apples. He considers them a treat.

Baldr - 2008-03-30

The guy is under surveillance by the police, since they suspect that he's the one that's responsible for all the criminals dying of heart attacks. Therefore, he can't feed his invisible grim reaper acquaintance apples, which makes the grim reaper unhappy.

Five stars because when Japan does an anime adaptation, they scour the country looking for the one mutant actor that actually looks like a cartoon character.

Xenocide - 2008-03-30

More than a treat. He actually becomes physically addicted to them, and goes into weird convulsions without them.

Why apples? Because Japan is drunk on biblical symbolism.

kiint - 2008-04-01

Baldr im pretty sure the "angel" is all CG...pretty impressive too

Baldr - 2008-04-03

Klint, I wasn't referring to the CGI character, but the real people they use for the Light and L characters. They're both frizzy-haired, skinny-arm guys, with pale completions, and giant eyes.

When the US decides to do comic book adaptations, they ask, "Can we find a person who would look like that hero, if they were real human being." In Japan, they ask, "Can we find someone that actually looks like they belong in a comic book."

I laughed harder at this version of his reaction than I did at how either the comic, or the cartoon did it. Damn.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-09-10

Although, I have to ask; does Ryuk end up doing handstands and twisting his body up like a pretzal in the movie adaptation? :D

This is from one of the two movies. The movies are pretty damn impressive. In any case, the movies cut out a lot of unnecesarry bullshit and wrap up the story in two films.

Stog - 2008-03-30

EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Xenocide - 2008-03-30

Man, if I had my own pet psychopomp, I'd be nicer to him. He can kill me! It's his job!

Adramelech - 2008-03-30

Christian allegory is used in the East the same way that Eastern spirituality is used in the West. Haphazardly, yet hilarious.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-30

There is little doubt in my mind that he said that just to get that exact reaction.

Vicious - 2008-04-18

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Squeamish - 2009-10-26

Dammit, now I'M hungry for apples.
