Vote with your stars:

Five stars - I believe it's necessary and a good idea for all domestic cats.

Four stars - I'm pro declawing but I might not have my own cat declawed.

Thee stars - Indifferent

Two stars - Cats should only be declawed in an exceptional basis and I would not have my own cat declawed.

One star - Animal abuse and should be illegal.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-01

This is not what POETV was made for, sir.

Midnight Man - 2008-04-01

fermun - 2008-04-01

I will not play your game.

Adham Nu'man - 2008-04-01

Earmites.

GoodAaron - 2008-04-01

Earmites.

FatFatuousNation - 2008-04-01

I think it's a more pleasant idea to declaw the cat than to give it up to an adoption/put-to-sleep shelter. But I shall not humor the poll

SARS - 2008-04-01

even when it's being friendly, my friend's cat will dig its claws into your leg and kneed. And it really hurts, so I'm a strong advocate of taking their claws away.
To reiterate: because even when they're being nice, they're still hurting people. It's their cruel nature.

kingarthur - 2008-04-01

And that's exactly why their claws should stay. Kitties are there to remind us of our station in the world. By the way, how would you feel having your fingers cut off just above the middle or so?

SARS - 2008-04-01

I wouldn't like having my fingers cut off, as I'm a sculptor and swordsmith. But I wouldn't mind having my nails trimmed / become more pussy friendly.

So what was your point?

Mudpuppy - 2008-04-02

His point is that it's more than a nail trim. Declawing actually involves removing digits. You can get similar results by not being lazy and just trimming bi-weekly, or using sleeves like softpaws.
I'd rather see a cat declawed than in a shelter, but one star because this is stupid and who cares.

SARS - 2008-04-02

cats don't need to pick things up. The paws on a modern cat are redundant: as over 3/4 having been down-bred to produce a tubby, lap-friendly town cat. All town cats need, are mouths and tails - modern cats are very snake-like, slothful creatures. The removal of their toes is logical and justified.

kingarthur - 2008-04-02

Yeah, but you just termed your occupation as "sculptor and swordsmith", so, as a LARPer, your opinion doesn't count.

AgentOrange - 2008-04-02

A swordsmith, really? You are cool to twelve year olds, that's about it.

Enjoy - 2008-04-01

I just have too many friends with bad scars from cats.

Midnight Man - 2008-04-01

maybe they shouldn't own cats

Enjoy - 2008-04-01

Maybe. The two that come to mind got scars when they were kids. Isn't telling them not to own cats like telling someone not to own guns instead of saying have a gun safe?

kingarthur - 2008-04-01

They probably deserved it. I think with cats, the axiom: "It's a wild animal" should apply. Like with a full grown tiger. There's not that much difference in the behavior.

SolRo - 2008-04-01

Your friends are a bunch of pussies that spoiled their cats.

Mine would scratch at me and gnaw on my fingers when I played with him, but I taught him early on not to play so rough as to draw blood.

Simian Pride - 2008-09-09

Cat scratches are the best way to teach your children that the world is a sharp and painful place and that the ones you love will hurt you when you least expect it.

TheDevilsDictionary - 2008-04-01

You can clip your cats claws just like you do fingernails. It's not as hard as it sounds if you keep them used to having their paws handled.

rustedmutt - 2008-04-01

Exactly. Desensitize them to being on their backs in your lap helps too... E-Z clip mode.

fluffy - 2008-04-01

Also play with their feet a bunch so they don't get all neurotic about things being near them.

dancingshadow - 2008-04-01

Severian - 2008-04-01

Not that big of an issue.

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2008-04-01

I've had to remove people's toenails before. Not pleasant for them, but there as here, anesthetic is involved. Typically, better for everyone involved.

rustedmutt - 2008-04-01

Not a good example, chief.

Yoinking human toenails does not typically require the removal of bone tissue.

Idiopathogen - 2008-04-01

One of my employee's has a 16 year old niece. 3 days in the hospital with a fever of 105, almost died. An infectious disease specialist figured out it was cat scratch fever.

I used to shake when I did this procedure because I was worried about the long term consequences for my patients. After learning about the method I documented in this video, I have confidence in it.

I also charge > 0/cat, and only do 5 or so each year, so that discourages people from doing it without good reason to do so.

My 2 year-old daughter's pretty face comes before my cats claws. They are perfectly happy without them.

The world isn't what it should be because of the effect of sin on the creation. Roses have thorns, and cats have claws. Deal with it.

Walt Henderson - 2008-04-02

Okay, I'll deal with it. Incidentally, I don't declaw my fucking roses.

kingarthur - 2008-04-02

What the fuck does this mean: "The world isn't what it should be because of the effect of sin on the creation."

Because if you're gonna give a holy roller defense for declawing cats, I'd like to be prepared to mockingly laugh.

kingarthur - 2008-04-02

Because it almost sounds like you'd consider the actions of the cat "sinful" which is just so far beyond the absurd that it boggles the mind. Do the kitties come into your bedroom at night to sit on top of your chest and steal your soul?

StanleyPain - 2008-04-02

TO me, declawing is a sign of massive laziness on the part of an owner. You wanted the cat, so be a man and take care of it as one, rather than crippling it just because you wanted your little novelty pet.

Also, if you have kids, then don't fucking have cats. If you're that concerned that a cat will injure your child, get another pet that is far more friendlier and tolerant of child-like behavior like a Golden Retriever or something. It's retarded to blame the cat for being a cat when you're the one who brought it into your home and exposed it to your family.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-04-01

4 - if its done right

Poverty - 2008-04-01

If for whatever reason you'd get a cat over a dog, you might as well make sure it can't unintentionally injure you

AgentOrange - 2008-04-02

By your logic you should declaw and detooth dogs as well. Do you read what you write?

dead_cat - 2008-04-01

I'm glad there is a less severe method that causes them less discomfort, but I still think declawing is relied upon far too much.

SARS - 2008-04-01

I PERSONALLY LIKE DECLAWING AND AM IN FAVOUR OF IT.

Blaise - 2008-04-01

I hate cats and am surprised by the amount of sympathy shown in this post.

Still, cats should keep their claws. If only for their destructive potential.

5 stars for the video, am not going to play the other game either.

Also, roses are prettier with thorns.

TinManic - 2008-04-02

yes! easier to tease and be a mean ogre to them them when they have no claws. you can't play pizza chef with a cat if it has claws. am i kidding?

AgentOrange - 2008-04-02

I don't see why cats need to be declawed, I've been around cats my whole life and never suffered a severe scratch. You just have to teach them not to be dicks. Declawing is for lazy, shitty kitty parents. And this is from the guy who one stars every cute cat video that comes through here.

FABIO2 - 2008-04-02

To summarize, the only people here who are pro declawing are:

-LARP nerd

- total faggot

Just putting things into perspective.

Poor Excuse - 2008-04-27

cats are ninjas, their claws are their ultimate multi-tool/weapon.
