Oh my God, yes it is, because I saw him the other day and tried to take a picture, but he escaped. I'm so glad someone videotaped this because no one believed me.

I genuinely feel sad for this guy, being the subway freakshow that he is... but I also feel real respect for him, fearlessly bearing his giant, malformed feet in public.

LJ moment:
when i lived in shanghai and riding the subway:

1) one day a guy mottled with spots sat across from me, he had hair growing out of the spots. it was pretty brutal, they were everywhere.

2) i'm tired and sort of sleeping with my head in my hands. i feel a tap and look up to be face to face with the most horrifically burn child i've ever seen. he looked like a goblin. that was kind of scary, i gave him (he was panhandling).

3) an old man comes on pulling a child's wagon. riding the wagon is a child with a head the size of a very large water mellon and the body of shaved spider monkey. it was alive but i don't know if it was aware.

this was not all the same day, mind you.

That burned kid? Probably burned by his parents specifically for the purpose of panhandling. It's a pretty common thing in Shanghai, and is one of the (many) reasons that Shanghai is pretty horrible. GZ peeps represent!

Oh yeah and this video was somethin', too.

TinManic - 2008-04-08

well, that was the only time i saw it in a year and a half living in the city core. though i did see that particular a few times.

Guangzhou? go eat your fish eyes and catch malaria. :P

Camonk - 2008-05-20

Really? Cause I been to Shanghai a total of like two weeks and I've seen several maimed children. Plus, each time I went there, I got sick. Whereas I've only gotten malaria the one time.

In a sad way, this is what YouTube was really created for.

ALSO: May I suggest a "What Hell Sounds Like" tag nomination?
