It's sort of like the Italian pride rendition of white pride amongst American civil war reenactments.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-04-13

I didn't know Skeletor was alive during the Renaissance. But I'm glad that I know now.

a flaming monkey - 2008-04-12

I'm not sure if that was LARPing...Italians still wage war on each other like this.

a flaming monkey - 2008-04-12

oh, 5 for the growls.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-12

This isn't LARPing, at least not anymore. This may have started as LARPing, but it eventually turned into these people letting their ancestors possess their bodies for a chance to relive their moments of glory.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-07-09

A few Italians snuck out of Valhöll, and everyone was too busy eating Roast Sæhrímnir and getting drunk to notice.

oddeye - 2008-04-12

Sounds about 100x cooler in a non-english language. You could almost believe it was a very low budget tv-show until the fighting starts.

Adramelech - 2008-04-12

Man, serious LARPing is like the worst kind of LARPing. If you're going to dress up in fantasy gear and pretend to fight with magic powers, at least have fun with it. This is like a reenactment of a war that never happened.

kingarthur - 2008-04-12

I liked us better when we had the cool stereotypes. Can we go back to the cool stereotypes, please? Maybe we can say this is extreme northern Italy and these people are all likely technically Germanic.

a flaming monkey - 2008-04-12

not a chance.

metalgazebo - 2008-04-12

European Larpers do take their shit pretty seriously. There's videos floating around of the dutch and scandinavian Larpers that are pretty impressive.

metalgazebo - 2008-04-12

Also, Baldy McBeard and his two giant bodyguards.

Doctor Arcane - 2008-04-13

They seem to have way nicer armour than your average American LARPer

garcet71283 - 2008-04-12

I dunno if this could be considered LARPing.

This is the same culture that has entire legions of roman soldiers for reinactments of battles.

Also, I don't see any nerf darts being thrown around while some scrawny guy shouts "lightning bolt!" in a squeeky voice.

glasseye - 2008-04-13

No. It's definitely LARPing. This is pure fantasy crap, whereas the roman guys actually care about doing things *right*. I doubt you'd ever see a hardcore roman reenactor with one of those silly foam swords.

Hooker - 2008-04-13

On the other hand, rubber swords.

Man, what happened to you, Italian culture?

Camonk - 2008-04-13

What happened? Italy's been pretty low rent since the heyday of Machiavelli. It ain't like this is a new development or some damn thing.

kingarthur - 2008-04-13

Italian pop culture's been kinda stunted since the heyday of late 70s, and 80s sleaze. Mostly because no-one really feels like doing much. Kinda like Spain.

dancingshadow - 2008-04-12

larp is really stepping it up lately.

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-04-12

5 stars for a LARP I might actually play... I never said that.

baleen - 2008-04-13

oh yes you did!

zatojones - 2008-04-13

European nerds get extra stars because the girls they convince to do this shit are almost always a lot better looking than their American counterparts

Jimmy Labatt - 2008-04-13

HERE HERE

Chancho - 2008-04-13

I was wondering where all the fatasses were.

FABIO2 - 2008-04-13

Tom Hanks' performance in Mazes and Monsters is looking pretty convincing right now.

Vicious - 2008-05-11

I like the white knight and the black knight getting all up in each other's face.

Riskbreaker - 2009-11-17

Face it, these guys make this look like an actual hobby. I would gladly join them, as long as i have some mask gear to wear that is.
