Dear Media: Please stop killing our troops by reporting on stuff. Thanks!

baleen - 2008-04-10

The interesting thing about the quote is that it can be politicized in any direction. In the hands of Fox News, it is being used against "the liberal media" in a way that suggests that their reporting is killing troops, for instance the widespread "liberal" reporting of the civilian massacre in Haditha.

So what he is actually saying, that the media distorting events is hurting the war effort, is what FOX IS DOING WITH HIS OWN GODDAMN QUOTE.

Which is why they should all be rounded up and sent to the gulag.

Minimalist: go to Iran.

baleen - 2008-04-10

I have an idea Billy, why don't you go to Iraq?

baleen - 2008-04-10

ProfessorChaos - 2008-04-10

" In many cases, the media has unjustly destroyed the individual reputations and careers of those involved."

Hmm. Sounds like good journalism to me. Every person who would be getting a CAREER out of this war SHOULD be held accountable for this policy nightmare.

Also - Quit your bitching about media coverage during the war. The media coverage of this war has been pathetically partisan, compared to some of the journalism from past wars. The American people has NOT seen pictures of burning, starving iraqi children runnign through the streets of their burned out homes, or seen (much) footage that shows the raw brutality of this war has visited upon Iraqi citizens.

zatojones - 2008-04-10

Part of Sanchez's gripe is not that people's careers are being destroyed but that they're being destroyed unjustly after "some tactically insignificant events have become strategic defeats"

Honest Abe - 2008-04-10

i'm sure he considers abu ghraib insignificant you retarded apologist

zatojones - 2008-04-10

yes because when he says "tactically insignificant events" he definitely includes abu ghraib amongst them just like when I voice a dissenting point of view to yours i'm immediately an apologist. ass.

baleen - 2008-04-12

Keep in mind that this man has essentially condemned the starting of this war in the first place, and has been extremely critical of the Administration's role in fucking it up. What he is voicing is the anger over blaming the military for it. You may interpret that through the political party or media outlet of your choice.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-10

I've never seen anyone give the media so much undeserved credit. Except for members of the media themselves.

Aubrey McFate - 2008-04-10

Funny, I can think of a Fox News example for all his gripes.

Xenocide - 2008-04-10

If only the media had gone around destroying reputations BEFORE the war, a lot of people would still be alive today. You don't know what a truly ruthless media is, General. If you did, you wouldn't be in Iraq in the first place.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-04-10

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

FABIO - 2011-10-07

"Some tactically insignificant events have become strategic defeats" sums up every third world occupation since the cold war and THE ENTIRE POINT of irregular warfare. How does a general have such a poor grasp of military history?
