Not a very good recording of the intro. Whoever did it used a soundfont or something which really makes the music way more bombastic than it was back in ye olde days of simple SoundBlaster MIDI cards and such. So, you can't hear half of AM's dialog.

Innocent Bystander - 2008-04-14

-1 star for that.

So was this a good game then?

Jeff Fries - 2008-04-14

Does he say whether Benny has a giant cock?

StanleyPain - 2008-04-14

It's a great game. One of the best of the old point-and-click era adventure titles. Basically, you play through these surreal scenarios as each of the characters. You puzzle things out just as you would in any game of this type, but the catch is that there is only one "true" solution to each character's scenario, and that scenario involves allowing AM to kill you or "win" the scenario in the way that gives him the least amount of satisfaction and plays into the least amount of your character flaws, which AM loves reminding you of. It had great voice acting (except Ellison) and production values.

Oh, and on the Benny issue. His scenario is not as explicitly sexual as the original story, but it's definitely an element. The game really doesn't try to "clean up" the story elements. For the time, it was pretty damn dark and grim.

I always wanted this game and will probably track it down eventually. However I find his voice to be so irritating... I hope he doesn't talk throughout the whole damn thing.

StanleyPain - 2008-04-15

AM only speaks in the intro segments to each character's scenario and when you "beat" the scenario. So...it's minimal.

I think harlan enjoyed the idea of being the souce of all humanity's suffering a little too much.

Aelric - 2008-04-14

rating and spell check

souce = source

Cheer up emo kid.

The God of Biscuits - 2008-04-14

For anyone who has not read this short story, do yourself a favor and read it. It is one of the darkest, most amazing scifi stories ever.

kingarthur - 2008-04-14

That it is. This is also how Harlan sounds when he's on a bender.

FABIO2 - 2008-04-14

I dunno. It struck me as "Chuck Palahniuk" does Sci Fi.

FABIO2 - 2008-04-15

Besides Harlan's ridiculous ham, I thought it odd that they didn't even bother to try adding effects to his voice. No trying to make it sound like a computer, or even coming from speakers? No echo to reflect it's a massive machine speaking inside a stone cavern?

It doesn't sound like AM talking, it sounds like Harlan the person having a conversation with you in the same room.

I have this game on my comp. I've been meaning to play it, but the audio is buggy and choppy as hell and I can't get it to play right.

Aubrey McFate - 2008-04-15

I lied and played it right after I wrote this comment. Gorrister's story kicks ass.

GoneGirl - 2008-04-15

Hmmmm, I still have my copy. I wonder if I can get it to play on Windows XP.
