He had a magic baseball cap that could open portals to other dimensions. This somehow qualified him to fight against an immortal demonic entity for the fate of the world.

And in the end, he lost. But luckily the world rebooted itself somehow so he could try again, though we never see if he succeeds.

Despite this, this was one of the better cartoons of its time, mostly because it was aware of how ridiculous its concept was.

I think this was the last cartoon where the makers took a lot of inspiration from old scifi and adventure stories.

"Kid dragged around by owl" wasn't as catchy a title.

Also this cartoon gained mad street cred when I was a kid because someone always died in the opening teaser and because they had an episode that was essentially a send-up of John Carpenter's the Thing.

This cartoon was also good because the main character at one point commented on the "je ne sais quois" of a place. I mean, come on.

My first tears over a cartoon were shed over the episode where Max and company find this other group of heroes who basically sacrifice their lives so that they can escape. The one guy says that he'll come back as a butterfly just before Max gets through the portal.

Then the gang is all at a shrine for the guys and THAT DAMNED BUTTERFLY COMES OUT. BAWWWWLL for me.

And the ending was mindblowing for someone who hadn't yet touched anime.

This show was all about Norman.

Yeah, I remember this.

The "M" stands for Metal. This was one badass non-anime.

now if you could upload the episode where they fight the doom dragon, and its stated that Norman was Lancelot, Thor and little john that would be the bees knees.
