0:58-1:00 is one of the most awesome shots in the history of animation.

Camonk - 2008-05-11

I just wanted everyone to know that this statement isn't an exaggeration. If anything, it's an understatement.

Jeff Fries - 2008-05-11

If you haven't already, check out the Wikipedia page

This may be the only animation you'll ever see where a man and an anthropomorphized horse wink at each other, and it's not creepy in the slightest.

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-05-10

If I remember correctly, his cyborg horse's name is Thirty-Thirty.

Camonk - 2008-05-11

That is 1) 100% correct and 2) 100% badass.

tenten - 2008-05-11

And his gun's name was Sarah Jane. He treated that gun better than he treated Bravestarr.

And since I'm riding the wave of remembery, there was a girl on the show, a judge who wore black leather. She was the Miss Kitty to Bravestarr's Marshal Dillon. Her weapon was a gavel that could shoot out and she used like a whip. Kinda like Tigra's whip from Thundercats.

+5 for horse that transforms into biped horse w/opposable thumbs.

dementomstie - 2008-05-11

I think I had the action figure of one of the bad guys! I really remember liking that toy, it was awesome.

Xenocide - 2008-05-11

Filmation made some godawful cartoons (how we haven't had more of theirs in the last two weeks is beyond me) but this one at least had a kickass theme song and a goddamn SHOTGUN HORSE.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-05-11

Throwing skills of a girl!
Wang of a horse!

dorje - 2008-05-11

There was a time when I couldn't remember the name of this series, and half believed I'd hallucinated it.

Aelric - 2008-05-11

i felt that way about the maxx.

als, tahnks for playing the vague memory game with me and the majority of 20-somethings on this site

Aelric - 2008-05-11

The God of Biscuits - 2008-05-11

Needs NEW TEXAS tag.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-05-11

I never saw this as a kid and that makes me sorta sad. It looks Westspacetastic.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-05-11

I think I saw this only dubbed in Spanish so I missed out on the amazing rhyming skills.

That said, goddamn where did Filmation learn that movement existed on more than one plane? The animation to that looks amazing.

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-05-11

I used to listen to the Bon Jovi track "wanted dead or alive" when I was a kid and imagine it was about bravestarr.

Camonk - 2008-07-22

"On a steel horse I ride" is OBVIOUSLY about Bravestarr, though I'm sure that Thirty-Thirty and the other Equestroids were built from like titanium or something, not steel, but I mean what you think Bon Jovi is gonna know that? No. He's not.

bopeton - 2008-05-11

Cowboys in space is always a win.

Blandwiches - 2008-08-25

I love the maniacal, almost rabid sounding "Bravestarr" from the voice over at the end there.

Also, this was Filmation's last show ever. That makes me sad.

Bort - 2008-09-01

Five stars for the kick to the face at 1:03: freeze the video and you'll see there's an explosion at the point of impact. Jim Aparo could not have done better.

Also five stars for the episode with the anti-drug theme ... all the 80s cartoons had one, but this was the only show that went all the way with it, in that the drugged-out kid actually overdosed and died. The final "don't do drugs" message at the end was delivered by Bravestarr laying a wreath at the kid's lonely, lonely grave.

Goethe and ernie - 2009-03-05

Have I commented yet saying how genuinely glad I am this is on here? Bravestarr was on long enough ago to be on the cusp of my memories, for so long I thought I was imagining it, all I could remember was a robot horse who said "pardner", and when I was a kid I didn't know what he was saying. Then I found this, and I'm not ashamed to say I watched it several times over and punched the air a lot.

Be sure to catch this too (the tags don't link up with it):

On the one hand, it's pretty clearly a cheaply-made movie that repurposes every second of the intro and exists just to tie the cartoon to the toy line. On the other hand, it's got more than a few moments; you can tell the Filmation guys enjoyed writing a hero who is occasionally a showoff and isn't always impressed with the guys he's fighting.
