Compulsory auto-five.

I wonder if that laugh 0:23 was suposed to be there.

If you don't watch this show, you are officially the stupid person in the world.

Baldr - 2008-05-14

Sorry, I just can't get interested in it. I've watched all of the PoETV clips, but I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting.

I understand that this makes me a bad person, and I'm sorry.

AgentOrange - 2008-05-14

Perhaps internet clips are not the best way to experience the show. I recommend you give the show a chance, maybe by renting it on DVD.

Baldr - 2008-05-14

Alright I'm considering giving this a chance, but two questions first:

1) How many episodes do I have to commit to?

2) Did everyone who liked this also like the Sopranos? I'm guessing that I won't like it for the same reason. I'm fine with violence and brutality, but it has to serve some greater purpose. Every character I've seen so far, from the police to the gang members, seems fundamentally unlikeable. If it's just a bunch of assholes killing each other then there's not anything for me to get emotionally involved in.

Angry nerd demands like this are the reason I've never watched Fight Club

citrusmirakel - 2008-05-14

In response to Baldr, I think the first DVD of the first season should give you a pretty good indication if you're going to like it or not. If you're not invested by then, fair enough. And I liked (but didn't love) the first like half of the Sopranos, and think Deadwood is God's gift to the English language so... decide from there.

The Wire is like any network copy show except they can curse and show tits and stuff. This makes it "better"

vissarion - 2008-05-14

Some people compulsively seek out and proclaim their disapproval of popular things. This makes them "smarter"

theSnake - 2008-05-15

The Wire is not a commitment to watch. You simlply start with the first episode ever. The you watch the second. 3 weeks later you have downloaded and watched every episode of all 5 seasons in a marathon and are starting over at season 1.

You are now just beginning to understand what makes it so good, and upon your second viewing of the series you understand the plot fully and enjoy it even more. The third run through, you spend mentally filling in every remaining crack in the plot, and mouthing the best lines of dialog you didn't realize you memorized.

I haven't watched the series a fourth time, but I expect it to kill me. I'm ready though. This is how I want to go.
