I realize that Matthews is by far a great media icon, but it is funny to see him, of all people, get the better of a dumb, sputtering, clueless, talking head like Kevin James on national television.

StanleyPain - 2008-05-15

meant to say, is NOT by far... obviously.

dancingshadow - 2008-05-15

How does this guy not get punched in the face constantly ?

GoneGirl - 2008-05-15

I have no idea; I was throttling my laptop while watching this.

jangbones - 2008-05-16

Come on, man, in the GOP this dude is macho.

Billy the Poet - 2008-05-15

Christ! Journalism!

And I would never even have thought to look for it there.

Aoi - 2008-05-15

Amazing. Beautiful. Matthews gets a grape tonight.

GuyCorngood - 2008-05-15

Kevin James thought the test would only be multiple choice. What's this essay bullshit?

ChocFullOfFunk - 2008-05-16

Oh man that's good. That just about sums up everything wrong with every argument made by a talking head on any news network.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-05-15

Ladies and gentlemen, the star of Hitch!

Frank Rizzo - 2008-05-15

wow, so much comedy.

the finger pointing and head wobble at 6:45

the closing 4 seconds and how he's just cut off.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-05-15

Matthews is more annoying than a call alarm but he's one of the few cable news guys who actually call these talking heads out on their bullshit every so often.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-05-15

of course, i wonder how many people even here really know what chamberlain was up to, and why. but honestly, if james is going to trade on his whole "i am a pundit and serious analyst" schtick, he'd better damn well know what's what.

then again, if he really did know what the reality was, he wouldn't be a neo-con pundit anymore. selective ignorance is kind of a prerequisite.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-05-15

This hack is never going to let Chris Matthews forget that after all that effort to expose his ignorance of history, at around 9:00 Matthews thinks that the USS Cole was attacked under the first Bush, when it was actually under Clinton on October 12, 2000.

Blaise - 2008-05-15

Good Job Tweety, keep it up for the next time Laura Ingram is on.

glendower - 2008-05-15

This is pretty funny, but I'm not sure if Matthews was being fair. He gave the guy a history quiz question about Chamberlain when the guy didn't bring up Chamberlain. I'd imagine most windbag pundits have a really spotty knowledge of world history. I'm sure any interviewer can be fairly successful making people look stupid by asking pop quizzes about history or any other subject. I'm just questioning what role the academic quiz question should have in journalism...

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-05-15

Dude, come on now.

halon - 2008-05-16

If you cannot name one of the primary instigating events of world war fucking 2, you should not be given money to talk about politics (or anything else). Regardless, he was defending the president's use of the term "appeasement", so he better goddamn well know what the word means.

StanleyPain - 2008-05-16

I will admit, it is perhaps an honest exaggeration to say the man specifically compared Obama to Chamberlain literally. But when the right-wing starts tossing around the buzzwords "appeasement" and "Nazi" in the same breath, it's tantamount to the same thing.
And, like most everything right-wing pundits do, it's vile. Not in a stretching-my-vocabulary-to-sound-impressive kind of way, but quite literally vile.
Whether you agree with the way Matthews ran the situation, the mere fact that this man, and all of the neo-con followers parroting what Bush says, are unable to actually articulate the comparison of Obama to a Nazi appeaser, is an important thing to point out. Frightening that that point goes to Matthews, who is usually a dipshit.

positively - 2008-05-16

1. James came on specifically to defend Bush's comments about Nazi appeasers, you'd think he'd have done five minutes of research about the subject.
2. Matthews wasn't just quizzing him for the gotchya element, he had a legitimate point about the difference between diplomacy and appeasement.

H110 History of Modern Europe

Udderdude - 2008-05-16

LOUD NOISES!

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-05-16

"Hey uh, you should read this book, its full of insight into modern diplomacy and incredibly relevant postwar global issues."
"NO YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS KICKASS MOVIE THAT DISNEY AND ABC DID, ITS RAD AND HAS HELLA EXPLOSIONS"

fermun - 2008-05-16

I love that the response to "read this book" is "watch this movie" kinda explains why this guy knows nothing in the first place.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-05-16

I was about to bring this up, thank you.

Stopheles - 2008-05-16

Am I the only person who finds it ironic that Prescott Bush's grandson is accusing people of being similar in spirit to Americans who appeased the Nazis?

C. Eloi Marx - 2008-05-16

That was so Zen, Mr. Matthews.

jangbones - 2008-05-16

Facts.

Yelling.

AgentOrange - 2008-05-16

Jesus christ Chris, did you not hear the man? He's an appeaser, alright.

RockBolt - 2008-05-16

I AM TALKING LOUDER THAN YOU THAT MEANS I AM RIGHT LA LA LA LA

Jeff Fries - 2008-05-26

It's so good to go back to the beginning of this and see him grinning like it's Christmas.

Herr Matthias - 2008-05-26

Chamberlain? Isn't that the guy that scored like 100 points in a game?

ABoyNamedCheese - 2009-03-16

Kevin James has energized, legitimized and energized, through his policies that he supports, legitimized english muffins and marmelade.

Cactus nazis. Yes.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-05-15

At some point, Matthews needs to take responsibility for bringing such an obvious lightweight onto his show.
