I admit to doing poor in my college chemistry class but this is a pretty good fake to me. I mean, he even wrote on the underside of the hood in white marker.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-05-30

Huh.

I'm reminded of that wierd movie a few years back about some Cold Fusion catalytic converting scientist who I think was the protagonist of Sliders. Can't name it for the life of me and don't wanna bother IMDB'ing it.

GoneGirl - 2008-05-30

You're not thinking of Chain Reaction, are you? 'Cause that was Keanu Reeves. And horrible.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-05-30

No, that was keanu Reeves.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-05-30

Thanks for reminding me, and yeah, it was Keanu. Eh, those two look alike if you cut their hair the same way. And yes, it was horrible, I just like laughing every time someone figures out a new way to turn water into a power source.

FABIO2 - 2008-05-31

Dont forget The Saint.

Has there ever been a movie about cold fusion that wasn't horrible? Cold fusion is to movie science like hacking is to movie computers.

Smellvin - 2008-05-30

If he's using battery power for the electrolysis, why not just hook the battery up to a motor and make a pure electric car? It seems like he just added a superfluous step to make it seem neat by saying, "Hey! It runs on water!"

Mad Struggle - 2008-05-30

Hydrogen is explosive.
Oxygen is an accelerant.
Break water apart at the molecular level.
????
COMBUSTION.

Smellvin - 2008-05-30

But there's the whole entropy thing... Does he actually end up getting more energy out of the electrolysis than he would just sticking the battery on a motor?

glasseye - 2008-05-30

No. Much less in fact, as the internal combustion engine is much less efficient than an electric motor.

This is a sham; you can't beat thermodynamics.

Syd Midnight - 2008-05-30

We went over this on Poe News. Smellvin is right. Any electrolysis engine would be more efficient by just using the electricity to drive the goddamn car. There are a few specific scenarios where off-site hydrogen production might have its uses.. but every step between "raw power" and "make the car go" is a loss of efficiency.

But the Gee Whiz factor will get you $billions in investments because people are pretty retarded, all in all.

Syd Midnight - 2008-05-30

Glasseye's last sentence is all you need to know.

The 3 Laws of Thermodynamics, abstractly simplified:

#1: You can't get ahead

#2: You can't break even

#3: See rules #1 and #2

chairsforcheap - 2008-05-30

in THIS house, we obey the laws of THERMODYNAMICS!!

futurebot - 2008-05-31

but what if

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-05-31

Chairsforcheap beats you all.

Postureduck - 2008-05-30

DANIEL DINGLE~!

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-05-31

Was anyone with CAR SMARTS fooled with his disconnecting hose trick? I can yank a vacuum line on any car and make it stall right away.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2008-05-31

Hm. There's an American guy who claims the same thing - he wants people to believe that something to the effect of the frequency of the electrical current used to electrolyze the water is important.

But of course... perpetual motion and free energy can't exist.
