I was going to say fake. But that one chick got hit in the face with a monitor.
I bed that whole rooms stank of adrenaline for a while.

Screwtape - 2008-06-03

I'll say fake: no one makes a concerted effort to leave the room.

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-03

Quite possibly right, but in all fairness I'd totally stick around to see how it played out.

bias - 2008-06-04

if its fake someone went to alot of trouble. heres a link to one of the cell phone vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOMAUjuIKb0

zatojones - 2008-06-04

They're Russian. I now believe it 100%.

gorch - 2008-06-04

In the video that bias submitted, you can see/hear the two security guys who pull him off the desk also zap the hell out of him -- twice! -- with a stun gun. That's what changes him from "office rampage guy" to "on the floor in a fetal position guy" so fast at the end of the video. Awesome.

dancingshadow - 2008-06-03

great vid. You can see him take three angry breaths right before he gets going.

dancingshadow - 2008-06-03

I'll show you how to knock things off desks... I'll show you all.

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-06-03

This seems too perfect, I'll hold my stars till I see a news story. If it's real neato and 5 stars of glory, if not I hate this kind of "reality" style shit.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-06-03

I would've been all right with them adding the Star Trek fight music from Amok Time.

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-03

I played the Amok Time clip in another window while this was going, and kudos for that brilliant idea. I HIGHLY recommend you try it out!

Dinky Patterson - 2008-06-03

Aw shucks....

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-06-04

"Spock, no!"

*ax swipes*

I love you.

halon - 2008-06-03

The multiple people recording this on cellphone cameras convince me that it's real.

Rudy - 2008-06-03

The fact that none of the office drones even tried to restrain the guy until halfway through the video makes me think it's legit.

That guy who took away whatever that dude was swinging around (a fire ax?!) has balls of solid steel.

Enjoy - 2008-06-03

I was guessing it was real because when he first whacks that guy with his keyboard, everyone within earshot pops up surprised.

dancingshadow - 2008-06-03

Real or not.. at least the camera doesn't pan or zoom, there is no audio and the camera text looks totally plausible. The people also react well... especially the girl that gets hit with the monitor and the people who console her.... so if it is fake, at least the fakes are getting better.

kiint - 2008-06-03

looks like Joey forgot to take his meds again

kingarthur - 2008-06-04

Unfair stereotype of people with mental illnesses!

Five for the video though.

Comeuppance - 2008-06-03

He had all of his sanity and restraint neatly bound and ordered in that stack of papers.

svraz - 2008-06-03

Neat!
Though I am not convinced that this is legit.
This person is in the centre shot right from the beginning which is pretty convenient. He never really gets off camera until he is somehow restrained/pacified (behind desk). Seems to me that unless choked out/knocked out someone that spazzy would just keep going (but then again we didnt get to see what happened). It could still be viral even if people were filming on cell phones because I am sure marketers have seen Cloverfield/Diary of the Dead. Also whats with cctv cameras in offices? Do the costs of stolen office supplies merit the costs of such high resolution surveillance? Finally, its 1210pm. Lunch time. Why is that office so full.
If it is real then i guess i am just a cynical bastard.

dr_rock - 2008-06-03

My office has cameras. You also need to swipe in/out of every door, and pass through security on the way in. I guess it's becoming standard stuff for bigger companies.

takewithfood - 2008-06-03

Where is Dwight when you need him?

Hooper_X - 2008-06-05

Dude, that IS Dwight.

svraz - 2008-06-03

oh oh. when the actor loses his footing and falls the camera conveniently blanks out for a second. Allowing the director to preserve continuity and to say "oh shit, bob are you okay? Great, keep going ".

waxeater - 2008-06-03

There are a few things that make me think this is a fake, but the biggest one - at least to me - is how easily those monitors were ripped out. If connected to a PC and power strip halfway properly, they shouldn't be able to do that. You know?

TeenerTot - 2008-06-03

yeah. i want to believe, but it doesn't look like his monitor has any cords attached at all.

Adham Nu'man - 2008-06-03

Weird shit happens in the world; and in an age where there's cameras even up monkeys' arses, sometimes weird shit gets filmed. It's real goddamit!

StanleyPain - 2008-06-03

I'm going with fake because no one in the video acts like a real person.

If this actually happened in a workplace, and I've seen pretty bad meltdowns, no one just hangs out so they can conveniently wind up as part of the incident. People leave the area..they get away. The "injured" woman stays in the same spot for virtually the entire video despite being hit, having shit thrown at her, and the guy coming right at her. She doesn't move or scare away at all.

Most offices have security guards. They would have been called.

No one does carefully choreographed shit like when the guy tries to get the lamp or bar or whatever it is. No one. Except maybe crazy people. If a guy is swinging something like that around, 8-10 people are not going to be hanging out in the area just watching and acting scared and no one is going to do some action movie bullshit of trying to wrestle a metal bar away from a crazy person.

The whole just feels very unreal. It could be I suppose, but it's doubtful. The big tip off on these videos is also the fact that they're security videos, which usually means they're tied to a security console, but yet no security shows up. Surely after almost 5 minutes, SOMEONE would have down up.

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-03

That was our expert on terrified office peon combat-avoidance techniques, Dr. Stanley. And now, a dog that SQUIRTS when it BARKS? Steve is on location with the story!

Camonk - 2008-06-03

Yeah most offices have security guards, but most security guards are lazy twats, so taking three minutes or more to get there isn't at all unbelievable.

Crapenstein - 2008-06-04

The disarmer is a security guard. He comes from outside the room. It's totally fake though.

gorch - 2008-06-04

Watch the second video that bias submitted. The two guys who pull him off the desk are security guards. They're wearing blue uniforms with armbands. They zap him twice with a stun gun at the end of the video.

Camonk - 2008-06-03

Even if the video isn't real, the emotions are. Anybody who's ever worked in an office, and claims not to have felt like freaking out on everybody is a liar.

chairsforcheap - 2008-06-04

that's the main thing i come away with in this video. Also, look how close the cubicles are.... that would drive me absolutely insane.

chairsforcheap - 2008-06-04

you know what, the fakeness comes away in the first 2 minutes.... the guy who knocks the paper off the desk is obviously the worst actor in the scene...

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-04

Peter Gibbons: Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and you didn't have to work. And invariably what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars then you're supposed to be an auto mechanic.
Samir: So what did you say?
Peter Gibbons: I never had an answer. I guess that's why I'm working at Initech.
Michael Bolton: No, you're working at Initech because that question is bullshit to begin with. If everyone listened to her, there'd be no janitors, because no one would clean shit up if they had a million dollars.
Samir: You know what I would do if I had a million dollars? I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...
Michael Bolton: Samir, you're missing the point. The point of the exercise is that you're supposed to figure out what you would want to do if...
[printer starts beeping]
Michael Bolton: "PC Load Letter"? What the fuck does that mean?

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-04

Oh yeah, and let me just hop a ride on that Real bandwagon you've got there. You just wait. CCTV is the best thing to happen to white-collar offices since secretarys.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-06-04

"I am Professor Chaos! Nothing can stop me! Mua ha ha ha ha ha!"

sosage - 2008-06-04

Fake or not. I like how the suits seemed to call in someone working in the trenches to take whatever that guy was swinging away.

chumbucket - 2008-06-04

"I'm starting a new company and the FISH are coming with me, call me sentimental"

Adham Nu'man - 2008-06-04

"It seems totally implausible to me that someone, somewhere, in a planet with millions of people, had a really bad day and freaked out in an office; especially since the people in the office did not react the way I THINK I would have reacted if I WERE them. And security took a whole TWO MINUTES to arrive!!! Preposterous! Instead, I'll believe that 20 people got together to enact a perfectly choreographed random violence scene that involves professional stuntmen and destroying expensive equipment all for the simple pleasure of pulling an anonymous prank that will yield them no fame and no financial retribution. Yes, THAT is the TRUTH!"

Jesus, kids are fucking stupid these days.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-04

Ten to One odds that you just quoted a YouTube comment without sourcing the name of said commenter.

Also, the moon landings were faked. Christ.

revdrew - 2008-06-04

Fake or not, this is exactly what I needed after work today.

Hooper_X - 2008-06-05

After seeing the second angle, I'm leaning towards "not fake." I'm kind of wondering what set the dude off, though.

Also, people weren't leaving because some douche was standing in the doorway all BUH HAY GUISE WAT'S GOIN ON HURR?

Geoff Marr - 2008-06-09

just amazing!

He clearly did not punk me!

Now what do I win?

Christ, some of you people are first class suckers.

Jeff Fries - 2008-06-18

This phony thing was one of PoeTV all-time highest-rated videos.

Hooper_X - 2009-01-07

Clearly, A for effort.
