You already established that you disagree, that's not exactly addressing the issue. Ellen has some fairly astounding restraint in not calling him out on that.

citrusmirakel - 2008-06-13

So, the day this was taped, John McCain went on the record as being in favor of civil unions...

Man, this guy really doesn't know where he stands on this issue.
http://glassbooth.org/explore/index/john-mccain/10/gay-rights/ 15/

Comeuppance - 2008-06-13

To play devil's advocate, he was not being hypocritical with this statement. He's in favor of civil unions, but not gay marriage - the distinction being the difference between a legal contract and a religious ceremony.

If I'm reading the information above correctly, he's been consistently for allowing the legal and insurance-related aspects, and the "not yours, cannot have" aspect is the lack of ceremony and the inability to technically say that a gay couple is "married."

Not really an issue of personal interest to me, just adding a bit of clarity.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-06-13

Great story: in Washinton state, starting on the 12th, same sex couples can register for domestic partnership and get the same rights as married couples, but without all the burdensome taxes. Straights have to have one of the people be over 62 years old. I'm SO GLAD THR QUEERS HAVE GIVEN US EQUALITY NOW.

Spike Jonez - 2008-06-13

He doesn't know where he stands on any issue.

"Mhm... mhm... mhm... mhm..." = "I disagree... I disagree... I disagree... Fuckin' dyke..."

citrusmirakel - 2008-06-13

Comeuppance, well - no, not really. Occasionally (on occasions like this one) McCain has sort of danced around this issue of civil unions being acceptable, but stopping short of marriage.

Which is all fine, until you actually hold up a civil union bill in front of him, at which point he will decry it as being too marriage-ey. And he actually supported a change in the Arizona constitution which basically aborts every single thing you'd want in a civil union bill. So yeah, McCain's quite largely been against it.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-06-13

He was asked about civil unions before and said something like "gay people should have legal rights" but then backtracked like 10 minutes later with some anti gay marraige stance. From his reactions, I don't think he even knows what a civil union entails so he panics.

I FEEL LIKE

Ellen sounds like every other liberal woman EVER in the history of history: my feelings come first. Nevermind Norway or morals or religion or statistics. Let's all just FEEL.

Goddamn pursuit of happiness!

Gays shouldn't be allowed to be happy for vague reasons I can't define!

Comeuppance - 2008-06-13

Vague reasons you can't define being:
- Religious views and interpretations of texts vary, some accepting all love regardless of gender.
- Separation of state and national interference from nonviolent religious issues.
-The philosophical noninterference aspect of ideal governments wherein one is allowed to do as they wish as long as it does not affect others in any real way.

y/n?

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-06-13

Plus you might get shit on your dick and stuff

gotterdamm - 2008-06-13

Don't listen to this LIEberal heathen Billy!

It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Comeuppance!

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-13

Look everybody, it's a Billy.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-06-13

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." -Leviticus 18:22

WOW, SO CONFUSING.

And by the way, happiness means all kinds of things for all kinds of people. We, as a society, choose to either uphold and condone or to repress certain urges, and gay sex is something we repress because it's linked with rampant promiscuity, regardless of a freak minority who prefer monogamy. It's not rocket science. And who cares if opposition is in the Bible, anyway? The gay community is a gross community, and almost totally opposed to any sort of family values. Any sort of gay gathering/parade/club can tell you this. Get a clue.

gotterdamm - 2008-06-13

Billy, please, please, please post this over in the Poe-news.com forums. We NEED to discuss this.

Pretty please?

Billy Buttsex - 2008-06-13

In case the last one didn't work... for some reason my page won't load the last link.

glasseye - 2008-06-13

Y'know, using quotes from some musty old religious tome wont do you any good when you're trying to argue something that isn't about your kooky religion.

Fuck the bible, disallowing gay people from marrying one another just doesn't make any sense.

glasseye - 2008-06-13

Also: "the religious community is a retarded community, and almost totally opposed to any sort of thought. Any sort of religious gathering/service/church can tell you this. Get a clue."

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-13

Well hell, if Leviticus says it. And I hope you don't eat swine -- although it is cloven hoofed, it is unclean.

B. Weed - 2008-06-13

Hope Billy doesn't wear cotton-poly blend clothing either.

citrusmirakel - 2008-06-13

C'mon, Billy. Really? You're gonna go right for Levitcus?

I'd say that's lazy trolling, except you're already provoking people to do the typical "Here's what else the bible says" responses, so I guess you accomplished what you meant to.

Still, I don't see how this schtick doesn't get old for you.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-06-13

Don't you guys know by now that all our laws revolve around Leviticus?

halon - 2008-06-13

Billy, I think a slave of mine has been gazing at one of my wives' only daughters in a lustful manner. How should I go about disciplining him?

Comeuppance - 2008-06-13

Halon, I believe a public stoning is in order. Perhaps a lashing beforehand if he has been looking lustfully at both/all "only daughters."

Billy Buttsex - 2008-06-13

I like how I said "screw what the Bible says" and you guys are still attacking my bible reference. Also: I REALLY like how nobody mentioned any of the stats in the article. Smart bunch, you guys.

Halon: kill that SOB.

gotterdamm - 2008-06-13

Come on Billy, these sodomites need to be saved:

Billy Buttsex - 2008-06-13

Hey bud, I've tried twice and gotten nothing. You have my permission to let the heathen have it. Let loose the article of war!

boner - 2008-06-13

Referencing the bible is a fast way to end a good argument. As fast as comparing someone to Hitler.

Quad9Damage - 2008-06-13

Better check your clothing for mildew, Billy. Leviticus 13:47-59

Cleaner82 - 2008-06-13

You said, who cares what the bible says, because the gay community is a 'gross community'. That wasn't an argument, that was a swirling void of anti-argument. Troll harder.

NoCode - 2008-06-14

Hahaha.

These five stars are just for Billy and how far up his bible's ass his head is. I didn't even watch the clip.

HEY GUYS LAST TIME I CHECKED EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES WAS A JEW OR A CHRISTIAN, THEREFORE WE SHOULD COMPLETELY MAKE OUR LAWS BASED ON LEVITICUS, AMIRITE?

Leviticus 20:9 Seems pretty clear to me! Let's make that a law!

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-06-14

Aimed at Billy Buttsex:

"For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Matthew 7:2-5

This roughly translates to 'lose your biases before you judge people, or you're gonna be wrong, likely without you knowing it'

Also

"Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction." 2 Timothy 4:2

This part says roughly that you should be adept at judgement before you pratice it. Otherwise, it's just weak sauce.

You really need to read that book of your's a little harder, Billy.

Enjoy - 2008-06-14

Sending a terrorist fistjab your way Billy.

Hey, anyone down for some debauchery in the form of all you can eat shrimp at Denny's?

Also make sure to stone your children in a public square if they become rebellious and do not listen, as Deuteronomy 21 tells you to

I feel like I like Ellen.

“My story begins in nineteen-dickity. We had to call it 'dickity' because the Kaiser stole our word twenty. I chased him, but gave up after dickity-two miles.”

kingarthur - 2008-06-13

Auto five for Degeneres getting the local pride groups in her hometown something to cheer about.

New Orleans: we're a bastion of laissez-faire everything, surrounded by a sea of Republican bible thumpers.

And we piss God off so much with our universities, gays, blacks, and casinos that he throws hurricanes at us.

Camonk - 2008-06-13
