If PoeTV rerfuses to acknowledge what I must SURELY have submitted already .. then here ya go.

His ejection seat landed on his head, his helmet melted onto his face. The truck driver who rescued him vomited uncontrllably upon seeing his face.

Yeager chose the most painful burn treatment possible, daily dermanl debridement. "It smarted a bit". But you can barely see the scars now.

Whatta man.

Say, that's not an X-15.. what is the plane he he takes for a hard ride here? XF-104?

zatojones - 2008-06-18

NF-104

Syd Midnight - 2008-06-18

Thx for the info. An expirimental F-104?

Oh Jesus Christ, I just looked up the F-104 on the internet. Crazy plane even in its vanilla state. It was just a huge fucking jet engine with little stubby wings on it and a cockpit up front. It was famous for killing its pilots. A real suicide machine. It only did one thing good, and that was GO VERY VERY FAST.

Years later, came back to comment because I was just reading about the NF-104A.. it was an F-104 with a rocket engine and maneuvering thrusters added to allow it to operate at the edge of space. This crash wasn't due to pilot error, although just climbing into the thing could be considered attempted suicide.

The Man himself explains the incident: http://www.check-six.com/Crash_Sites/NF104-YeagerInterview.htm

Yeager was one of my heroes as a child, i just wish i hadnt turned into a lazy depressed teenager who became a lazy depressed adult otherwise i would have probably tried to become a fighter pilot.

Favorite scene from a great movie.

I've seen Chuck fly his P-51 Mustang a few times several years back at Oshkosh's EAA fly-in. Very cool.

I had such a crush on this man growing up.

It hit me out of nowhere, but the theme the director was going for here is that Yeager was frustrated for having been left out of the space race, so here he decides to just go into space all on his own.
