damnit...that looks good.

so is anybody else going to boycott it?

bac - 2008-07-18

Oh side note, if you havn't read the Graphic Novel yet (which you should go do...buy it, download it, steal it) I'd be careful reading the comments further due to what I can only imagine will be some ass-clown handing out SPOILERS.

a flaming monkey - 2008-07-18

I'm intrigued, though that was the most 'avoid-revealing-any-hint-of-plot' trailer I've ever seen.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-07-18

I just picked up an issue of Entertainment Weekly that had an article on this. It sounded like, contrary to everything that worried most fans, Synder was going to not do his usual antics.

This trailer for the most part shows that. But I really wish that he had just saved the frame-rate ramps.

BillFisto - 2008-07-18

EXPLODING CHINAMAN ACTION!

bac - 2008-07-18

vietnameseman action.

Knuckles - 2008-07-18

I saw no penis.

yourmother - 2008-07-18

Do I see rorschach's mask constantly shifting? I think I do...

Merzbau - 2008-07-18

You do!

fluffy - 2008-07-18

This new DC/Marvel rivalry is at least somewhat less ridiculous than the last one.

Merzbau - 2008-07-18

Cautiously optimistic about this one. No doubt it'll be dumbed down, and we know it'll be heavily abridged, but hopefully Snyder (or whoever wrote the screenplay) can figure out what's essential.

Is anyone else amused that they're using a song from the Batman & Robin soundtrack to advertise this?

Aoi - 2008-07-18

Well, he claims that in adapting the graphic novel, rather than deconstructing comic book superheroes, they're aiming to deconstruct movie superheroes. Thus, Nite Owl switches from Adam-West like everyhero with primary color super-ship, cave, and spandex costume to flashy tech ship, armor-y shiny armored suit, etc, amongst other things. And, you know, suit-nipples and groin-plate on Oxymandias, c/o Batman & Robin.

a flaming monkey - 2008-07-18

yeah...That Pumpkins song...recycled. How ironic, since the hawkman guy looks kind of like batman.

TypicalEllisProtagonist - 2008-07-18

The Hawkman guy, who is supposed to look like Batman, looks like Batman. Good catch.

Aelric - 2008-07-18

The screenplay was written by Solid Snake. If the copy I saw was genuine (which it probably wasn't), the end will make any Moore fans head explode with anger.

Gotta admit, it's a nice trailer, and every scene in it was actually in the book, but I still kinda feel like this shouldn't exist.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-07-18

file this under hilarious Youtube fight: the song used for Batman and Robin was called The End is the Beginning is the End, whereas THIS song is called the Beginning is the End is the Beginning

i hear at comiccon, Snyder will release an alternate trailer with Dancebat, by Prince, as background music.

gambol - 2008-07-18

Yes, that's true, although both of them were on the Batman and Robin soundtrack, coincidentally enough, one at the beginning and one at the end. They are the same song more or less, one slow and one fast.

Grace Mugabe - 2008-12-23

SNAKE! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

Hooker - 2008-07-18

Night Owl: Indistinguishable from Batman!

Konversekid - 2008-07-18

Personally he reminded me of Die Fledermaus from The Tick.

mysterycar - 2008-07-18

guys, guys, they're BOTH indistinguishable from batman

mysterycar - 2008-07-18

holy freaking hell, this looks amazing so far

snothouse - 2008-07-18

Well, now that I don't have to look at the terrible comic art, I want to see it.

Chancho - 2008-07-18

Let's hope the mediocre writing is gone too.

kingarthur - 2008-07-18

I know you're trolling but....fucking Philistines. Go back to whatever backwater spawned you with that proud-in-your-ignorance bullshit.

There. I'm calm now.

bac - 2008-07-21

thank you for beating me to it.

I'll be damned though if this isn't the second person I've heard say the art is bad...which makes me really think the human race should stop being.

Nikon - 2009-06-29

>now that I don't have to look at the terrible comic art,

From now on, you should read aloud what you typed to make sure it isn't fucking retarded.

jangbones - 2008-07-18

Looks pretty and all, but this will probably be no more than a visually interesting and shallow adaptation of the book.

ProfessorChaos - 2008-07-18

Oh, God, Yes!

Also: I thought the actor playing Dr. Manhattan looked like Sean Astin, for a split-second, at first.

I panicked.

ProfessorChaos - 2008-07-18

Apolgies. I mean I thought he was Seann William Scott, and also got the name mixed up.

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-07-18

Oh, I have such high hopes for this one.

Xenocide - 2008-07-18

Saw movie trailer today. Looks nice. Am hardly in it. Later, made rapist drink scalding acid. Hrm.

dementomstie - 2008-07-18

I have to give this five stars for looking good, but I'd give it five stars for this comment alone.

bac - 2008-07-21

hurm.

wtf japan - 2008-07-29

Rorschach is perfectly cast, btw. Don't believe me, watch "Little Children."

meamlegion - 2008-07-18

I was considering boycotting it... but damn this looks good. however in order for this to be actually amazing it will have to be nearly 3 hours long or more.

Aoi - 2008-07-18

Apparantly, 'around 3 hours' is the length that's generally being tossed around, these days.

KnowFuture - 2008-07-18

This...actually looks like they may not have fucked it up too badly.

Camonk - 2008-07-18

This has made to decide to finally up and read the goddamned graphic novel already. Fuck. Fine. I'll do it already, pretty decent-looking movie!

kingarthur - 2008-07-18

I had a literature-gasm.

I'm going to see it. However, if you haven't read the book, you owe it to yourself to read it and appreciate it.

Now let's hope they don't change the ending.

Camonk - 2008-09-30

Yeah the book was actually incredibly awesome and I am glad this trailer made me stop being a lazy shit and read it.

BHWW - 2008-07-18

Well I am intrigued even though nothing Snyder has done so far has wowed me. I might give this a chance.

Hooper_X - 2008-07-18

Sold.

zatojones - 2008-07-18

yeah i'll see this

Lurchi - 2008-07-18

Looks ok but there's going to be a hell of a lot of bad expository dialogue. You know it.

Tstyle - 2008-07-18

From the visionary director of 300

Mr.Graves - 2008-07-18

Oh, hello there. YES.

JSP - 2008-07-18

No.

ztc - 2008-07-21

Please elaborate. I like reading your grumpy opinions.

JSP - 2008-08-03

My anger here really isn't all that spectacular; I can't see this without thinking of Snyder swearing up and down that he will make the most faithful version of Watchmen possible in the face of the fact that the most faithful adaptation already exists and was written by Alan Moore and it's a book called Watchmen.

We seem to live in a culture where a thing cannot truly be said to exist until someone makes a movie out of it, and that annoys me.

Honestly I'm sure I'd have a different opinion in a world where there was no book but just this movie, and I don't begrudge others their enjoyment of the movie, but I won't be seeing it and to me - again I stress, to me - it looks like insulting shit, conceptually.

There's more but this site's about videos and not my thesis on same. You know?

Magical Man from Happy-Land - 2008-07-18

this movie will suck

Corman's Inferno - 2008-07-18

Night-Owl's costume gave me an erection.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-07-18

I don't know. We'll see.

Squeamish - 2008-07-18

I WANT TO BELIEVE

But I'm banking on disappointment.

Eh, what the hell. It'll be a good way to waste an evening anyway.

chumbucket - 2008-07-18

drop the smashed pumpernickel tune and this trailer will truly rock

Boxhead - 2008-07-18

I really hope this doesn't pull a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and whitewash everything interesting out of the characters in favor of marketability and ability for Larry T. Cockhead to identify with them.
I am vaguely nervous in that Night-Owl seems to have lost his gut and is generally cooler than his comic book self, undermining one of the big themes of the comic, the aging of superheroes.
I do find it interesting how much Snyder realizes that those graphic novel artists seem to have an idea how to set up a good scene and follows the framing exactly.

Cautiously optimistic.

Aoi - 2008-07-18

That point, that Nite Owl doesn't look out of shape enough, in particular in his 'drop out of the air into the crouching 'I AM THE BAT' pose' shot, had me thinking: maybe that happened when they were facing off with the anti-vigilante rioters? Back when he was younger and fitter?

He did kick a lot of ass even in his old, out-of-shape self, so the running leaping punch-thing from the prison isn't too bizarre, particularly viewed from behind. And hell, the suit looks to be made out of armor-like materials like current batsuits, rather than the spandex from the comic. Maybe he wears a girdle underneath it...

divinitycycle - 2008-07-18

Saw this on the big screen at the Dark Knight opening last night.
In the theater with the big sound system and hi def screen, it is indeed "HOLY FUCK"

Tyrathca - 2008-07-18

NOT SURE IF WANT
But seriously, watching this trailer just made me re-read the book and godDAMN it is good. It is good.
5'in it just for that...

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-07-21

5 stars because this might well ruin Watchmen for me forever.

Chinballs - 2009-05-26

This trailer, like the movie itself, fulfills the awesome requirement.

Vicious - 2011-01-10

Ha ha it suuuuucked.

twinkieafternoon - 2011-05-19

I was very entertained watching it, and loved the story. Those are the only criteria I'm judging the film on, though.
