It's a shame modern anime dorks aren't as eager to laugh at themselves as Gainax were. These guys basically sunk their life savings into a making a movie where they portrayed themselves as hilariously hopeless cartoon nerds. That level of self-awareness is worth five stars.

This is actually the only anime movie I've ever seen that I continue to think of as good to this day
