Eh, I figure rpgs were better off 2d. Makes your imagination work harder. Plus, there's more game and less movie. 3d games always highfalutinate themselves way too much.
Clearly you've never had to scroll through 80 pages of text after fighting a boss. 2D RPGs had just as much story (at least during the Super NES era) it was just told in a different way.
Why the hell would the guys who made this expect square to pick it up? I don't think getting into video games is as easy as playing a rockin' show in front of a talent scout.
I don't really understand the hate towards this project. In my eyes, Chrono trigger was probably the greatest RPG, and these guys were doing what looks like an awesome job just putting it into 3d. At the very least it would have been fun just to play through it once, to see what everything looked like and because it's chrono trigger. But then Square shut it down so that they could continue putting versions with half-assed emulation on FF compilation discs and shit.
I will five star, because that is considerably heads and shoulders above these kinds of projects. Typically it's some kid who posts solicitations for "HAY GUYS I HAVE AN IDEA CAN SOMEBODY PROGRAM THIS FOR ME"
These guys were really going to see it through. And the attentionn to detail that makes everything about this game show it as a labor of love that Square only snuffed out when they should have encouraged it or at the very least ignored it.
I just wish they would have kept things more underground and out of the reach of the lawyers because that was really the expected outcome since day one. Then the Starcraft mod for C&C Generals made the same mistake.
5 for Chrono Trigger, and the sheer evil of Square. This made my day right until I noticed that it had been cancelled. Now I'm just depressed. My first nerdgasm, wasted.
