There's a big difference... Many conservatives are not going to vote this year. They are sort of fed up with the collapse of their party's values. So while they might whine a whole lot, which is pretty much all they've proven to be good at, they won't leave their houses, instead vying for getting fatter on the cheeseburgers of a dying empire.

The polls are all close right now (Obama has the same 3-6 point lead he's had all summer) but what the polls don't show is willingness to actually vote. The thing that's going to kill the Republicans this year is the enthusiasm gap; people on the left are fired up for Obama, while McCain can barely manage a tepid response from his side. It's "FUCK YEAH, THIS IS OUR GUY WOOHOO THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME" vs. "Eh, whatever, he's all we've got, I guess." Guess which one gets the butts out of the seats in November.

But what if they nominate a hot-looking radical fundamentalist woman with zero experience as VP and hide McCain behind her skirt? The guy with the better ratings is supposed to brush off the attack ads, it's the traditional thing to do. As we get closer to the end you will see Obama's ads become more vicious, as he links McCain to corporate graft, the deaths of Americans, and how out of touch he is. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make him look like an insane veteran who has snapped and wants to play war games with American forces. Obama is doing everything right at the moment. I just think people are so racist and disgusting in this country that they won't even be willing to listen to a man who is clearly intelligent and would make a very capable leader, especially compared to the most incompetent president in we've ever had who just happens to have a normal sounding name and white skin.
