It's nostalgia pure and simple for me. But, yes also the accents. I mean come on, mosquitoes are inherently assholes, foreigners are assholes. It all fits so nicely.
I imagine some Discovery Channel executive saying "This is horrible! This is the worst commercial ever!" and the director just folding his arms and saying "Watch and learn, grasshopper."
