good speech

Angel Carver - 2008-08-29

Poor McCain.

baleen - 2008-08-29

Don't worry. It's going to get dirty and very very ugly very fast. McCain will do great! The real question is will Republicans vote the same way they poll? There are so many demographics in the picture that have never been before. Polling data of "likely voters" tend to lean Republican based on the last eight years, but there are a lot of "likely voters" that have never been energized before, mainly independents, blacks, Latinos and even young people who are polling way towards Obama but 3/4 of the time never get off their asses to vote.

The person who compared Obama to Reagan's celebrity on these comments is correct, because Reagan motivated people to vote who had not only never voted, but NEVER VOTED AGAIN. I've met people who voted for Reagan in 1984 that didn't even know what party he was in, he just made them excited about voting. It might just be that simple.

Absolutely nobody knows what is happening.

I will say that I can't remember a single convention that chanted together in sync by the tens of thousands. Not in this country (waiting for Republicans to edit some Hitler footage together for our enjoyment).

Stopheles - 2008-08-29

Not the best speech I've ever heard, but one which had several points that struck me as incredibly powerful. It sure as hell did the job it was supposed to do.

jangbones - 2008-08-29

I love how the party of Ronald Reagan tries to answer to speeches like this with "Obama is a celebrity".

voodoo_pork - 2008-08-29

I actually hadn't connected those dots yet, but yeah. That's a good point.

chumbucket - 2008-08-29

America, fuck yeah

Enjoy - 2008-08-29

I suppose three stars for style.

Enjoy - 2008-08-29

Although I have to admit it was a good speech. Ass.

The Faghorn - 2008-08-29

I can't wait until he's elected so I can crawl into your house with an abortion saw bought with welfare checks and a bag full of gay mexican sex.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-08-29

It's okay if you vote for him in secret. You don't have to tell us. We'll all just go along with it.

StanleyPain - 2008-08-29

If nothing else, it's amazing to see a man *this* close to the White House who can actually speak like this. Someone who not only has a non-fear-mongering message, but someone who can actually give an address without sounding like a bumbling fucktard barely capable of putting on his own clothes. Someone who inspires the world and says "Wow, wouldn't it be nice if that were America's leader instead?"

And, incase any of you missed it, the official McCain campaign response to Obama's speech was to literally recite the dialog almost verbatim from one of McCain's latest attack ads, including the flat out lie about "raising taxes for people making 42,000" thing. That was the best they could come up with. Little soundbytes and premade attack phrases that are months old at this point.

Camonk - 2008-08-29

I've never been so convinced in my life that eight is enough. Fuck yeah.

Xenocide - 2008-08-29

He did everything he needed to. He nailed it oratorically, he went after McCain aggresivly, and he left no doubts as to his patriotism. This is going to be one of those speeches people will be trying to emulate 10 years from now, because weather you agree with him or not, no one can deny that it was a damn fine speech in every way that counts.

Sudan no1 - 2008-08-29

"It's time for them to own their failure"

OWNED

Simian Pride - 2008-08-29

Oh wow, his inaugural address is going to be EPIC!

Knuckles - 2008-08-29

"John McCain says he'll follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell, but he won't even follow him to the cave he lives in!"

That made me grin ear to ear.

StanleyPain - 2008-08-29

John McCain might follow Bin Laden into a Denny's.

voodoo_pork - 2008-08-29

I would as well.

GRAND SLAM!

Justin Dohrmann - 2008-08-29

These debates are going to be sad. This dude can speak and McCain can only tell the story of how he was held prisoner by gooks so many times.

Jeff Fries - 2008-08-29

NGH OH BARAK

gotterdamm - 2008-08-29

That was almost a sentence dude. You're getting closer.

Johnny Roastbeef - 2008-08-29

I'm really impressed with his speaking, and frankly with his political effort to try and understand opposing viewpoints. It suggests to me at least that he's a mature thinker and someone who actually does care about America and not just his personal political ambition.

Desidiosus - 2008-08-29

I just watched this on the Canadian political channel. Wow.. just wow.

Everything he said was just bang on. No minced words, no avoidance. He can do it all.

garcet71283 - 2008-08-29

So are we changing for hope or hoping for change now?

Cena_mark - 2008-09-03

I see they tried to make the stage look like a mosque.
