Poor McCain.

Not the best speech I've ever heard, but one which had several points that struck me as incredibly powerful. It sure as hell did the job it was supposed to do.

I love how the party of Ronald Reagan tries to answer to speeches like this with "Obama is a celebrity".

If nothing else, it's amazing to see a man *this* close to the White House who can actually speak like this. Someone who not only has a non-fear-mongering message, but someone who can actually give an address without sounding like a bumbling fucktard barely capable of putting on his own clothes. Someone who inspires the world and says "Wow, wouldn't it be nice if that were America's leader instead?"
And, incase any of you missed it, the official McCain campaign response to Obama's speech was to literally recite the dialog almost verbatim from one of McCain's latest attack ads, including the flat out lie about "raising taxes for people making 42,000" thing. That was the best they could come up with. Little soundbytes and premade attack phrases that are months old at this point.

I've never been so convinced in my life that eight is enough. Fuck yeah.

He did everything he needed to. He nailed it oratorically, he went after McCain aggresivly, and he left no doubts as to his patriotism. This is going to be one of those speeches people will be trying to emulate 10 years from now, because weather you agree with him or not, no one can deny that it was a damn fine speech in every way that counts.

"John McCain says he'll follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell, but he won't even follow him to the cave he lives in!"
That made me grin ear to ear.
|
StanleyPain - 2008-08-29 John McCain might follow Bin Laden into a Denny's.

These debates are going to be sad. This dude can speak and McCain can only tell the story of how he was held prisoner by gooks so many times.

I'm really impressed with his speaking, and frankly with his political effort to try and understand opposing viewpoints. It suggests to me at least that he's a mature thinker and someone who actually does care about America and not just his personal political ambition.

I just watched this on the Canadian political channel. Wow.. just wow.
Everything he said was just bang on. No minced words, no avoidance. He can do it all.
