Go Ask Alice? That smacks of completely missing the book's point. Did she also want to ban "Just Say No" posters?

klingerbgoode - 2008-09-11

beaten: yeah seriously. Beatrice Sparks was a right-wing Christian nutjob, a lot like Palin.

klingerbgoode - 2008-09-11

was--IS, jesus christ she's still alive!

Camonk - 2008-09-11

A republican missing the point of a book?!

Well, I NEVER! That would imply they had to read a book, first.

baleen - 2008-09-11

It appears to be an outrageous piece of media sensationalism.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/bannedbooks.asp

longwinded - 2008-09-19

baleen, you did watch the video, right?

they make it pretty clear that no books were actually banned.

Richmond - 2008-09-25

It's true; she only fired the librarian. Thanks for the peace of mind, baleen!

Chet - 2008-09-11

Those were just hypothetical questions and that firing the next week was entirely unconnected people.

STOP THE WITCH HUNT!

waxeater - 2008-09-11

It's worth noting that they completely misued the word "rhetorical." Rhetorical and hypothetical mean two completely different things.

"Palin characterized the exchange differently, initially volunteering the episode as an example of discussions with city employees about following her administration's agenda. Palin described her questions to Emmons as 'rhetorical,' noting that her questions 'were asked in the context of professionalism regarding the library policy that is in place in our city.'"

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-09-11

Ahhhh so Chet is BillyButtsex after all!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-09-11

But that had nothing to do with her being fired. Obviously she WAS a witch!

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-11

I'm trying not to be terrified over here.

homohabilis - 2008-09-11

i have failed in that endeavour.

five starts for abject fear.

GravidWithHate - 2008-09-11

...

I'm not even sure if this hurts Sarah Palin's image amongst the right wing.

Hooper_X - 2008-09-11

Pfft. Everyone knows librarians are the most liberal of the liberal.

(seriously, this might actually play strong with the HARRY POTTER IS THE DEVIL'S TOOL crowd.)

quantumcreep - 2008-09-23

I hope you weren't banking on them voting for Obama anyway.

Udderdude - 2008-09-11

lol america

longwinded - 2008-09-11

you bastard, don't stand there and laugh, get over here and HELP US!

baleen - 2008-09-11

They already did by coordinating the invasion of Iraq.

Desidiosus - 2008-09-11

We ARE trying to help! Obama is HUGELY popular with the rest of the world! Just let us vote!

Kingofthehobos - 2008-09-11

Glad to live in Canada where our conservative government only takes away funding for artists!

Goethe and ernie - 2008-09-11

In England, the banning of books is usually blamed on PC liberals, so props to Palin for mixing it up a bit, the mad old bint.

Goethe and ernie - 2008-09-11

Oh, but we don't say "PC liberals" here we say "THE PC BRIGADE", who are of course a subdivision of the "HEALTHY AND SAFETY NAZIS", whose funding is provided by the "EU GRAVY TRAIN". It's like a Bizarro land version of ill-informed right wing polemic!

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-11

She's not mixing up anything, our political ideologies are already well-blended into a strange, troubling soup.

Turrican - 2008-09-11

Quoting a pastor of a church after Palin changed churches it is a little like the Obama/Wright guilt by association thing.

Still, book banning is classical harbinger of evil.

Princess v2.1 - 2008-09-11

Sarah Palin sucks donkey cocks

TeenerTot - 2008-09-11

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-09-11

"They got the Library at Alexandria, they're not getting mine"

"They can have my books when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers."

Etc.

DMKA - 2008-09-11

Five stars for reminding me how doomed we are.

Maggot Brain - 2008-09-15

The very lest you could say about Palin is that she got every one interested in Alaskan politics for a brief moment in time.

citrusmirakel - 2008-09-16

That news guy totally says "libary" at the beginning.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-10-31

You can never have enough reminders that Obama winning was a good thing.
