It's a good way to start off "The Final Cut", if you're making a playlist.

This song actually appears on the remastered release of The Final Cut, and it fits in perfectly with the rest of the album.

"What Shall We Do Now" and this appear on The Wall movie soundtrack.

There's also a really good version of the song on "Is There Anybody Out There?"

I once saw what was either a bootleg or an import or both at some indie store in a college town one time that was the actual movie soundtrack.

You really don't get it. Nobody likes any band because their parents did.

The important part of this song is more about how his fathers death was treated, specifically by the government. To the government his dad was just another number on a list, undeserving even of a signature on his death certificate. It sort of got to Oh god I'm writing a short essay on the symbolism in The Wall. Shoot me now


Also: This is probably one of my favorite Floyd songs.

No it's OK...it's not like this is Hannah Montana or something. I always appreciated the album and the movie for going beyond simple "rock" bullshit. But, yeah, I always assumed the hint was that there was some dark secret about his father. I got the part about the dehumanization of the dead, I just figured there was something else to it.
