I think so. Prison is designed to dehumanize, but some guys won't let it happen. It gives me hope for the human race.

well.. they did kill and sexually assault people. Knowing you can just rape and murder someone has to be liberating as an artist.

This looks like a minimum security wing. I doubt anyone there raped or killed anyone. They're probably just a bunch of petty thieves, drunk drivers and pot-heads.
