Good fucking lord that woman is annoying. I don't like your questions...I think I'll keep answering them!

Cleaner82 - 2008-10-09

Come on, we're well-acquainted with that instinct here. Do I have to name names?

AgentOrange - 2008-10-09

"When did you hear about Obama?"

"Never." In fact, he's already forgetting about this conversation.

Konversekid - 2008-10-09

You could see that he wanted to say something witty.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

5 stars for the creepy blonde that keeps jumping into the shot.

Shine on you crazy diamond.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

Words have consequences.

McCain's legacy after over 30 years of service is going to be fanning the flames of bigotry and hatred, legitimizing smears by association, reviling education and intelligence, defining people in small, rural, god-fearing towns as the only real Americans, conflating questioning a war with hating the country and troops, and lowering the bar even further on what qualifies as ready for the Presidency.

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-10-09

I am genuinely unaware of this point so let's not get nasty, k?

How is he fanning the flames of bigotry?

StanleyPain - 2008-10-09

In the last few weeks his campaign is skirting very close to the line of outright racism. In at least one verified instance, a campaign head in one state wrote a column in a newspaper about how whites would be "in trouble" if Obama were elected, and the campaign has yet to comment on the issue or take any form of action against the person. Additionally, the rhetoric is ramping up in a way so as to take advantage of racist sentiment without overtly supporting it or appearing to be friendly to it, although that too is eroding a bit.

The heavy push to replace most of the "elitist" memes with new ones dealing with Obama "not being one of us" and "not understanding the way *we* think" is clearly an underhanded pandering to prejudiced sentiment.

Also, the McCain campaign has done nothing to either condemn or distance itself from the radically racist commentary of most right-wing, neo-con media figures, mostly in radio and in blogs.

There's no question, certainly not now, that McCain is openly courting and using racism as a method of campaigning in a way that gives them plausible deniability .

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

The campaign and its surrogates have been abandoned substantive issues in order to feed into xenophobia, suggesting that Obama isn't "like us". He's not a "real American", his name is Hussein, he lived in foreign places, his wife hates America, etc. These attacks are used to feed into the myth of his being a Muslim terrorist. Palin in her speeches accused Obama of undermining the troops to the point of their deaths, appeasing Iran, beings friends with terrorists, and concludes by saying she's "fearful" of such a man getting control of the Presidency.

That McCain tries to keep these attacks at arms length is no excuse. Palin is told what to say, and her speeches have outright accused Obama of not being American, conspiring with terrorists, and treason. McCain only serves as the legitimate face of it, in asking "Who is Barack Obama really, and why isn't he putting country first?" When he hears the cries back of "Terrorist" and "Traitor", its no surprise. Its a strategy build on radicalizing people, and playing into the very worst parts of human nature.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-10-09

5 stars for these comments.

Hooker - 2008-10-09

Is neo-conservative really associated with racism? I thought it was a more libertarian-imperial take on the H.W. Bush and Ford style of conservatism, which for it's massive, structural horribleness, at least was pretty fair to the issues of race and gender.

As much as I hate the whole concept of neo-conservatism, I don't think trying to pander to southern racists and bigots is fair to lump into it. It's a reflection of McCain's lack of a soul, not his lack of a brain.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

could one of you please point me to video/evidence of the CAMPAIGN itself being overtly racist towards Obama because Im not seeing it. Its politics as usual as I see it...

Sure people like you see in this video are stupid/racist but they arent McCain/Palin and they arent connected to the campaign.

AgentOrange - 2008-10-09

You're simply not going to find evidence of overt racism, the McCain campaign can't go there. The evidence is found in the campaigns recent and frequent characterization of Obama as the 'other'. McCain just did this the other day by asking, 'How much do we really know about Obama?' and Palin's comments about how 'Obama doesn't think like the rest of us.' The 'rest of us' here, are white americans fearful of blacks and muslims.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

Rizzo: Hell, McCain won't even mention Ayers in front of Obama or on non-conservative media. He knows it looks desperate and sleazy to everyone but his base. But McCain is directly responsible for his ads, and what his representatives say. Check out the ad in the Hopper. Or McCain's appearance on Hannity today, when he says Obama is friends with terrorists, and we don't know how far his connections run.

None of the other Democrats and Republicans who worked in Chicago with Ayers have been accused of being terrorists. This is all about his "bloodlines", and painting someone 'different' as scary and foreign.

Hooker: Yeah, ideological neo-conservatism is very term from the terms colloquial use. The same is true of many political labels. In this case, people associate the Bush neo-con policies, with the culture war issues he used to rally support.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

*very different

UnderANeonHalo - 2008-10-09

I will five star the well informed and polite responses I received. Thank you.

I think that the race issue has been played on both sides of the fence. For example, I doubt it's still there but during the primaries I was looking at the candidates sites and was surprised to see Obama's linking to the new black panther party. People also seem to have a knee jerk reaction of immediately following any statement of "I'm not voting for Obama" with an aggressive "Why, because he's black?". I don't like either candidate and am voting libertarian.

Also Hooker, you might be interested to know that the KKK is based in Indiana and most white power groups have the majority of their memberships in the midwest. It's the nation, not the region my friend.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

Do you guys want cheese with your whine?

Im not seeing any racism there, if you look for racism you will find it and you guys are finding it, big shock. All of this is politics as usual. Hey! You cant attack Obama! You cant call him different and not like us because he's black!!! Oh, and Im voting for Obama btw

This reminds me of those crybabies that call everyone sexist for asking Palin questions. Didnt you guys make fun of them? Oh THIS IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE I DONT LIKE IT!!!

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

People don't think Palin's stupid because she's a woman, and no Democrat pushed that line. They think she's stupid based on her actions.

Is it fair to say that Obama's actions make him "unpatriotic," "Muslim," "foreign," and a "friend of terrorists"? The McCain camp is saying its fair to "ask" these questions in a suggestive manner, but let's third parties make the claim directly (although they are doing the latter more and more).

If you think that Obama meeting Ayers and having a Muslim father is enough to justify the cries of "terrorist!", in the same way that Palin's answers on policy issues justify cries of "moron", then fair enough. Otherwise, its apparent than xenophobia and fear of "difference" is a big part of the campaign strategy.

Also, yes please to free cheese.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

"People don't think Palin's stupid because she's a woman, and no Democrat pushed that line. They think she's stupid based on her actions."

republican talking heads screamed sexism, just like democratic talking heads are screaming racism.

so how is ANY of this racist?

asking questions, saying Obama is different (not a conservative) etc etc..."People don't think Palin's stupid because she's a woman, and no Democrat pushed that line. They think she's stupid based on her actions."

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

how the hell did that happen?

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-09

Would these attacks be made if Obama had lived in Iowa instead of Hawaii? If his father hadn't been Muslim? If his name was John Smith? If he looked like John Kerry?

I keep saying xenophobia, because its more about fear of the "other", with race only being part of it. "They're not like us" isn't a new tactic at all, but the way its being carried out and enacted is. And if you don't believe that, watch Palin's speech and this video again.

Also, the only people getting screwed in this election more than moderate Republicans, are libertarians. Obama opposing McCain's proposed bailout of all defaulted mortgages is a surreal moment.

Hooker - 2008-10-09

I've lived my entire life in Vancouver, B.C. and the only U.S. cities I've visited have been on the two coasts. The most culturally stalled place I've visited is Ft. Lauderdale. I'm really just basing who-is-racist on stereotypes and hearsay. If you assure me that Denver and St. Louis are as collectively retarded as Houston and Atlanta, I'm willing to believe you.

Hooker - 2008-10-09

Also, Frank Rizzo is a retard. Go up to someone with a middle-eastern name and claim they're a terrorist on that basis alone. They will kick your racist ass.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

"Would these attacks be made if Obama had lived in Iowa instead of Hawaii? If his father hadn't been Muslim? If his name was John Smith? If he looked like John Kerry?"

yes they would, "other" means "he's not a conservative republican", not "OMG HE'S A NIGGER!!!"

trying to separate parties and label an opponent an outsider is NOT new at all. It happends all the time. "Al Gore is a liberal! He's not like us!!!"

I keep saying xenophobia, because its more about fear of the "other", with race only being part of it. "They're not like us" isn't a new tactic at all, but the way its being carried out and enacted is. And if you don't believe that, watch Palin's speech and this video again.

right, its not a new tactic at all. The exact same shit is going on now as it did countless times before. McCains tactics are the same as every republican that came before him. So why is it now about race and not "politics as usual"?

xenophobia is def a huge part of this, quite frankly Im surprised McCain hasnt grabbed the xenophobia baton and run even faster with it.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

"Also, Frank Rizzo is a retard. Go up to someone with a middle-eastern name and claim they're a terrorist on that basis alone. They will kick your racist ass."

epic fail.

I never once claimed or insinuated that he's a terrorist. All Im saying is that I dont see the racism in McCain and Palins run for presidency.

Did you miss the part where I said Im VOTING FOR HIM!?

now run along, the short bus is leaving soon.

Hooker - 2008-10-09

Epic? It was one post.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

some fails or boring, others are entertaining, only the best can be declared "epic"

your post sir, was an epic fail. It need not be many posts, just 1 is needed.

Hooker - 2008-10-09

Where does "I'm voting for a black person, and therefore I'm not a racist" fit in? If not epic, it certainly has to be somewhere around transcendent or astonishing.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-10-09

*sigh*

failed again.

"Where does "I'm voting for a black person, and therefore I'm not a racist" fit in? If not epic, it certainly has to be somewhere around transcendent or astonishing."

has ZERO to do with...

"Also, Frank Rizzo is a retard. Go up to someone with a middle-eastern name and claim they're a terrorist on that basis alone. They will kick your racist ass."

again, pay attention here. Hey! Stop playing with your hair and stop fidgitting. HE'S NOT A FUCKING TERRORIST! I never claimed he was!

You claimed I did, proving that either you're a retard or you can't read them words to good.

So just back out quietly and close the door on your way out if you're not going to pay attention in class.

The short bus is leaving! you better hurry!!!

Hooker - 2008-10-09

I claimed you called him a terrorist?

fatatty - 2008-10-09

Ok Frank, how bout this:

"Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, a McCain campaign co-chairman, edged up to an explicitly racial attack on Barack Obama on Thursday, describing the Illinois Senator as a "guy of the street" before raising his youthful drug use."

They over the edge now?

Jesus fuck I love the armchair lawyer who steps in at around 3:10-

"Don't answer his questions unless he offers them in writing to you."

Good advice, sir! Youtube court is in session!

sonichronique - 2008-10-10

Hey, cut the guy some slack. He hasn't been laid since the GHW Bush administration and he was just trying to ingratiate himself with demoneye with a view to some crazed-yet-cold-and-saddening conservative campaign sex.

KnowFuture - 2008-10-09

John McCain getting elected would be nothing less than proof that there is an Illuminati after all.

Udderdude - 2008-10-09

lol america

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-10-09

This cameraguy is a douche. A douche on the right side but a douche nonetheless.

Four of these go to the crazy creepy blonde and one to the last "This guy's good" guy because I like his style.

Xenocide - 2008-10-09

I'd prefer if he were just completely neutral and let people make asses of themselves without his prompting, but whatever.

Joey The Cobra - 2008-10-09

Uhhh, never

Check mate.

Joey The Cobra - 2008-10-09

Didn't see AgentOranges comment.

DopeFiend - 2008-10-09

The critter that first rears its head at 1:17 looks like something I'd see during a bad mushroom trip.
3:10 "lawyer" dude is definitely one of the highlights. We can all appreciate the calm and confidence of his retardation.
However, I think the cameraman's tone and approach are antagonistic and counterproductive.

Xenocide - 2008-10-09

It fills me with boyish glee to think about how these people are going to be feeling on November 5th.

Bort - 2008-10-09

Oh, I know how they'll be feeling, and with luck they'll express their feelings someplace the Secret Service will see it.

The next four years could become an exercise in irony, as groups like the KKK (the oldest and most powerful terrorist organization in America) see increased support, and anti-terrorism measures are taken against them. Hopefully sensible good-government measures and not stupid Bush-style measures, but the wailing and gnashing of teeth will be something to behold.

Erix - 2008-10-09

I...Jesus. I don't know what to say. This is bold-faced, willful ignorance and my response will be in the form of hardcore democratic weeping

commencing now

mon666ster - 2008-10-09

I spend 2 weekends a year in Strongsville, OH. Every time I go, one of the games I play is "count the number of nazi skinheads". Last time, I counted 4.

Irrelevant? Possibly. I'm just saying is all.

Guys, I feel really sick right now.

fatatty - 2008-10-09

We need to have a debate between Obama and McCain supporters. That would tell you a lot more about the candidates than any of the debates so far.

Stopheles - 2008-10-09

"Obama's been running for Presiden for two years."

"Oh yeah? Well, I've known of Sarah Palin for THREE YEARS!! I happen to pay a LOT of attention to the quotidian goings-on of mayoral politics in Alaskan towns of 5,000 people."

Chizmurder - 2008-10-09

I love this. It's like watching a happy kid burn a bunch of ants with a magnifying glass.

jangbones - 2008-10-09

Great point about this video from Jonathan Martin..."it's difficult to imagine even the most hard-core conservatives saying that Al Gore or John Kerry were terrorists".

You know, in case you still didn't believe that there is a racial aspect to any of this.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-10-09
