I like how Sweden is considered a bad word among Republicans, even though 60% of Swedes own more than one house and 40% of them own boats, they are suffering under a Socialist dictatorship, or something.

I've always wondered why Sweden in particular is singled out as an example of the terrurs of socialism. Are the conservatives afraid of viking raids or something?

A socialized market economy is, of course, irritating to people who have spent their lives regurgitating that the laissez-faire-invisible-hand-sorts-everything-doctrine is the sole answer to everything from diarrhoea to individual happiness.

Guys, there was an article I just read that dealt with how Palin and her advisers are basically running their own show, making it difficult for McCains group. She was reported as being a diva, who is really positioning herself to run in 2012.

Yes, I read that as well. She's really lining herself up for a run later on, and barring that, a way out of Alaska, where she can be a party leader in some faculty or other. If Palin and Bush is the kind of party leader Republicans want these days, more power to them. We (meaning swing voters) won't get fooled again.

I am completely convinced that a significant portion of America's population will indeed push for Palin to run for president in 2012.

However, I also believe that the other side of the GOP, you know, the ones with educations and money and influence, will spend the next four years making sure she goes away and doesn't ruin their party any more.

Her approval ratings are horribly low, though. Yes, she's popular with the Republican base, but not really with anyone else.
