As much as I love seatbelts and emissions standards, I wonder how Nader could have lived through as much as he did without learning that ONLY BLACK PEOPLE CAN USE CERTAIN PHRASES. He was a great consumer advocate, but he seems to have no idea how to be a good representative for the progressive cause in America.

fatatty - 2008-11-05

I heard him on the Michael Savage show and instantly lost all respect for him. I listen to Savage to laugh at him and yell at my radio, but I can't respect anyone who would go on his insane racist ranting show. Apparently "Dr. Savage" has started rubbed off on ol' Nader.

Mormon - 2008-11-05

OH MY GOD HE SAID UNCLE TOM

athodyd - 2008-11-05

Go the fuck home, Ralph.

voodoo_pork - 2008-11-05

Seriously, just go home, Ralph.

sosage - 2008-11-05

Would you please go to lunch. Go to lunch. Go to lunch. Nader, would you just go to fucking lunch.

Camonk - 2008-11-05

Wait, a Fox News douchebag is calling Ralph Nader out on being a racist? That's pretty cool. Plus telling Nader that he was reduced to irrelevance, which I mean is completely true. Fuck you, Nader. You're a stupid, incompetent asshole who probably has some decent ideas.

Alektorophobic - 2008-11-05

I love it when they play the tape recording, and then the reporter just sits there and STARES.

AND STARES.

AND STARES.

Meanwhile Nader is ranting on about what Obama COULD become... not that he ahs, just taht he COULD and that's terrible terrible enough to him.

Camonk - 2008-11-05

I loved Nader trying to make the bog standard I'M GOING TO STAND UP TO BULLIES thing that people use when they're on Fox News and that is so often perfectly applicable. The problem, Ralph you asshole, is that this time YOU are the prick.

Deconvolution - 2008-11-05

This reporter is the hypnotoad of faux news.

svraz - 2008-11-05

Now I am not defending Nader's choice of words, nor am I a Nader supporter and I am happy that Obama beat McCain. But.. you have to be kidding yourselves if you dont think that Obama represents the interests of the ruling class over those of working people. Obama is charasmatic, educated and a person of colour (all good things) but I dont think he is what a lot of people think he is.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2008-11-05

a) so fucking what

b) I don't care if Obama was the most bought and paid for candidate in history and made his victory speech with a 97-year-old white oil company executive giving him a reach-around. Calling the first black President "Uncle Tom" on the day of his election is unforgivably stupid and hopefully it is Nader political suicide and we never have to hear his crusty old ass again. Fuck you, Ralph.

c) "represents the interests of the ruling class." Really. While I'm at it, fuck you too.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-11-05

All Presidents are restrained by the power and influence of the elites (which isn't always a bad thing). As the bailout demonstrated, that's not going away.

But remember the last guy was a royal blue-blood from Connecticut whose father was President and whole career was funded by Saudi Oil.

This guy was a community organizer who was raised by poor hardworking grandparents and an educated, open-minded mother, and his career funded by the largest number of small-donors in history.

baleen - 2008-11-05

The Green Party and the Fag and Freedom Party are, hopefully, artifacts of a form of leftist cynicism that we really do not need if we are to get anything done.

Nader was twat for comparing Obama to an Uncle Tom, however metaphorical he meant it, just like he was a twat for saying that there's no difference between Democrats and Republicans. You look tired Ralph, go to sleep. Forever.

svraz - 2008-11-05

Um. Ok. I recognize no one give a rats ass but this being the internet I feel compelled to reply.

HURF DURF:
a. So fucking what what?
b. Agreed.
c. I think he does. Albiet a forward thinking and less reactionary segment. If this causes you discomfort and/or makes you want to fuck me:
1. I apologize for your discomfort.
2. I respectfully decline your sex inivitation.

EVERYONE ELSE:

Let me be clear. Obama being elected is wonderful compared to the alternative. Yay!

Nader is a jerk. Boo Nader.

However, I retain a strong criticism of the system itself. One man, no matter how cool he is, does not change that.

I am not making a play to be the new Cena. But if I am going to be the leftwing version of him can I at least get a better nemesis than HURF.
Im just saying.

athodyd - 2008-11-05

As someone from working class backgrounds who went to a working class school and in fact has worked often with the working class, I say the working class doesn't need to be running shit.

OH NO MY CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS

Hooker - 2008-11-05

I can't hear your words over your racism!

Hooker - 2008-11-05

Well, that wasn't supposed to be a reply, but oh well.

waxeater - 2008-11-05

I like to think of him more of an Uncle Kracker.

Meerkat - 2008-11-05

This is completely awesome, Nader is not getting the "Uncle Tom" problem at all. WHAT? WHAT?

rev.dinosaur - 2008-11-05

Shepard Smith is the most incredulous man on television.

Cleaner82 - 2008-11-05

His vacant stare contains more empty space than any man's vacuous skull should allow.

fetuschrist - 2008-11-05

and...and the corporations...they're all corporationey...

IrishWhiskey - 2008-11-05

I used to respect Ralph Nader more, but this entire election season he's done nothing but try to get attention with gimmicks, instead of trying to influence the issues discussed in the election.

Xenocide - 2008-11-05

LOOK AT THIS SHIT, RALPH. YOU HAVE FOX NEWS DEFENDING OBAMA FROM YOU. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FUCKING LOW YOU HAVE TO SINK TO ACCOMPLISH THAT?

This is the problem with third-parties in America. This shit right here. This bitter, fringey whining they engage in, where they can't even entertain the possibility that a candidate who doesn't come from their little indie club could possibly do some good for anyone, ever.

Look, don't get me wrong, the two-party system is a mess and we SHOULD have some other parties with a viable chance at winning. But we're never going to get there as long as this old nut is the voice and the face of third parties in America. As long as he's around, the movement is all but dead.

Camonk - 2008-11-05

Sadly, our alternatives are always nutjobs like Ross Perot or Ron Paul. All the really decent candidates apparently get sucked into one of the big parties and stay there. Goddamn it, third party America, get your shit together!

baleen - 2008-11-05

There are four parties in America.
Conservative democrats, liberal democrats, conservative republicans, liberal republicans.

It seems most of the conservative democrats have left us, but there's still some around. If you look rreeeeeal close at our TERRIBLE TWO PARTY SYSTEM you will see how various coalitions managed to absorb third party ideologies and even candidates over the decades. But no, third party people, generally a batshit insane aggregate of pseudo-intellectual fucktards, are not happy with the status quo.

We have to shake the foundations of America by calling Barack Obama an Uncle Tom on election day. Whoopdee doo.

RomancingTrain - 2008-11-05

This is going to be Fox's thing for the next 8 years, trot out crazy socialists and PUMAs to insult Barrack Obama then tear them down.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-11-05

Well at least they're shaking things up for sheer entertainment value.

I'm hoping Bill O'Reilly's show becomes a carbon copy of Jerry Springer.

Deconvolution - 2008-11-05

Fox news baiting aside, this statement is thus far the only relevant comment made by a candidate following Obama's ascent to the throne. My respect for Nader has just increased severalfold.

Cleaner82 - 2008-11-05

The comment without its little racism frills is, OBAMA COULD BE GOOD OR BAD. You're impressed?

Deconvolution - 2008-11-05

Yes, actually. Obama seems alright, but people are too in love with him at the moment for their own good. That aside, I'm more pleased that Nader brought up the economic foundation of both campaigns as a reason for continuing concern. As for the 'racism', all the reaction to his comment shows me is that political correctness is still as powerful a force for most people - and as annoying an obstacle to free thinking - as ever.

Cleaner82 - 2008-11-06

People are excited. It'll pass. The man isn't even in office yet, Jesus, relax. Let us celebrate you goddamn party pooper.

If you think "Obama could disappoint" is some sort of edgy revelation, it makes you the Oblivious King of Naivete Town.

Cleaner82 - 2008-11-06

As for "political correctness", in this case it isn't so much an obstacle to free thought as it is to phrasing your thought in a douchebaggy way. This guy wanted to be president and he says something like that? If McCain had ever uttered that phrase it would be game over that moment, but he never did because for all his faults he meets a certain minimum level of tact.

Hooker - 2008-11-06

I don't know if Ralph Nader actually wanted to be president. The whole point of third party candidates in the United States system is to steal votes from one (or both) of the two parties in an effort to draw attention to the issues you're trying to bring up. In Ralph Nader's case, it's mostly corporate integration into politics, out of control military spending, and a green economy.

That said, he sure was a cockhead about it here.

simon666 - 2008-11-05

Christ, Nader... We get the reference, we just don't think it's fucking appropriate. Go back to getting seat belts in cars, please.

Dib - 2008-11-05

So this is what Fox News had going on last night.

Fifty stars for the reaction. "Really..."

chumbucket - 2008-11-05

"really" pause pause pause "stunning" THE DRAMA...THE FOX DRAMAAAAAAAA!!!

fluffy - 2008-11-05

Yeah, exactly.

Syd Midnight - 2008-11-05

The talking head's expressions, eyeliner, and reactions were beautiful and why I gave 5 stars. That's some ownage right there.

futurebot - 2008-11-05

What makes this even more pathetic is that I'm sure he probably isn't even trying to be inflammatory - he's just really proud of his Uncle Sam / Uncle Tom wordplay and not particularly concerned about who it offends.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-11-05

MORE LIKE UNCLE SAMBO HAR HAR

Lurchi - 2008-11-05

Gommorrah?

RockBolt - 2008-11-05

You could say Nader got mauled like that dog mauled your kid, right, RIGHT?

charmlessman - 2008-11-05

Ralph Nader 101:

Step 1) Accuse everyone of being a tool of the corporate machine.
Step 2) Lose.

There was a time when I respected him. He's a choad now.

biclops - 2008-11-05

He then went on to question whether Michelle Obama would be the next Mrs. Roosevelt or Mrs. Butterworth.

Enjoy - 2008-11-05

Strangely enough I can almost imagine him saying that.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-11-05

Hear that? That's a death rattle. Of your career. It just died.

Also HOLY SHIT Fox News...did they just pull a Star Trek mirror universe thing?

Up is down! Dogs and cats are living in harmony! This is utterly insane.

Kibblesmith - 2008-11-05

I'd like to hot glue some soupcan lids to my steel-toed boots and turn his taint into meat-sauce.

This piece of shit is over.

joelkazoo - 2009-04-24

Ralph, Ralph, Ralph, Ralph, Ralph, Ralph, Ralph...

*sigh*

I can't believe I voted for you in 2000! (And before you start hurling incendiaries at me, I cast my vote in Minnesota, where the Democrats always win the presidential electoral votes. If you really want to blame something, blame this antiquated electoral system designed precisely so that the president is NOT elected simply by a MAJORITY VOTE DIRECTLY FROM THE PEOPLE, WHICH GORE...FUCKING...HAD!!!!!!!)

Ahem...

Seriously, Ralph, your usefulness as a politician is kaput. If you really want to help third parties, do it from a grassroots level, not the national stage.

Pie Boy - 2009-07-03

ralph nader is really really drunk
