Driving between Athens & Thessaloniki - on the freeway - along a mountain pass, a vintage VW Bug passed me on a soft shoulder on the right with a 500m vertical cliff inches away. Lanes are 'optional' there, nobody wears helmets, and every other corner shop in most Greek cities sells crutches and neck braces.
